Drained coolant
 

My water pump started leaking and making noise. Drained the coolant to replace the water pump and thermostat. Coolant now is a brown orange color and not clear. Doesn't appear to be any oil floating on top. Just replaced and flushed the coolant 1500 miles ago. Need direction on why coolant is so discolored. Would the failing water pump cause this? There was some breakage at the ends of the impeller and the water pump bearing is almost seized. What needs to be checked out about the coolant color before installing new pump and thermostat?http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1468635858.jpg

What kind of coolant did you use? To me that looks like worn-out Dex-Cool.

I used STP, extended life, anti gel coolant. Not much choice of coolant in my area. Also did my friends coolant in his 2001 S and his coolant is still nice and clear.

That coolant cleaned the living crap out of your system. Look at all of the garbage that the Pentosin left in your system.

Now, flush it with clean water and replace with Pentosin.

This looks like rust. Could be from the cooling vents or the lines to the vents.

Did you flush the complete system twice and completely with destilled water before you change to another coolant than Porsche recommends?

Maybe you should investigate very much in what kinds of coolants are available and why Porsche used Glysantin G40 for these cars and engines. And why this specific coolant can't / shouldn't be mixed with other coolants.

That sure looks like it has oil in it? What does the dipstick/oil look like. I would like to suggest that you send a sample to Blackstone or another company and have it analyzed.

The oil on the dipstick looks like clean oil. There doesn't appear to be any drop in oil level.
