Top down, clam shell closed, popping sound
 

1998 986 - put the top down this am, though idiot light remained on, though clamshell seemed to be closed and latched. When I tried to put top back up to inspect, clam shell would not move and would only make loud popping sound, about once per second.

Advice?

Yes. The ends of the pivot rods have popped off.
