Boxster S got me scared....
Hey guy and gals,
Loving the forum, some great info! Today I decided to try and change my fuel filter, which turns out to be built into the fuel tank. Anyway it turns out there is or has been a slight oil leak, it looks like it coming from the AOS there is some fresh-is oil on a cable below it along with some older dried up oil.**** The more worrying bit is the dried up and semi fresh oil on the mouthing between the engine and gear box at the bottom. http://s1280.photobucket.com/user/Ja...mkkhr.jpg.html http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4fpmkkhr.jpg http://s1280.photobucket.com/user/Ja...pse9canlcl.jpg Any opinions on what it could be? Have cleaned it up so will keep an eye on it, really hope it's not the dreaded IMS! There is a little bit of grinding when pulling away or changing gear between first, second and third. It's a 2002, S with 57000mile on the clock. Thanks 986Newbie! |

It is somewhat hard to tell what exactly we are looking at in your first picture, but an oil leak from the AOS is not IMS related, and could easily be fixed with a new AOS. You second picture is more discernable, but could still just be run off from the AOS leak.

The first one is below the AOS, looking around the web it's more likely the RMS. It doesn't drip down or anything.

Hello 986Newbie02,
1.) get everything really cleaned up. 2.) give the car some míles. 3.) do photos again (close ups and overviews). and i'm shure we can tell you what to do. ;) These pictures only say there is a lot of oil. ;) Regards, Markus |
