Airbag Light On - Boxster Won't Start // SOLVED
 

I am starting this post in case anyone ever does a search for this issue. Yesterday I took the Boxster out after washing it and a half mile down the road the airbag light came on. Put the car in the garage and figured I need a tool to diagnosis the issue and reset the light - a Durametic was the direction I was headed in.

This afternoon I went out and the Boxster wouldn't start. Obviously, it has something to do with the airbag light. Back to the internet..... after another hour I came across a possible issue; Fuse Row E, Number 1.... also referred to as Terminal 86s. According to the paperwork, this fuse controls, "Instrument cluster, radio, central locking/alarm system, roll-over-sensor control unit (911 Cabrio), daytime running light (Canada).

I checked the fuse (7.5) and found that it was in fact blown. I replaced the fuse and the Boxster started! And, the airbag light was not longer illuminated!

Life is once again as it should be!! :cheers:

I service Dialysis and RO equipment for a living....I see fuses blow for no good reason...even when you measure the current drain while in operation.....some times they go and you replace them and they just keep working....could be a "Iff'y" fuse

Perhaps.... I installed a 996 instrument cluster last year. The fact that this fuse has something to due with the "roll-over-sensor control unit (911 Cabrio)" leads me to believe this could be somehow related to the fuse blowing. When the airbag light illuminated I not only got the airbag warning it also showed "roll-over sensor" warning. Now, why it blew.... no idea. Pdwright could be right; it was just its time. I just hope it doesn't become an issue.

I'd say that you had a combination of high Coronal Mass Ejections inducing a slightly higher current and a sub optimal fuse, just enough to push that fuse over its limit. ;)
