Headlight on indicator
 

I just purchased a 2002 Boxster S and I am trying to figure out why the headlight on indicator does not work if the headlights are on after you take the keys out of the ignition. The manual states "if the ignition key is withdrawn and the door is opened while the lights (not the Welcome Home lighting) are on, a chime warns of possible battery discharge"

the dealer (private) where I bought the car says they have 2 other cars (2002 Boxster) and they do not have the capability either.

Thoughts, ideas?

sorry if this is an existing thread but I did search on Headlight, chime and did not see any answers to this type of question. I am a newbie so go easy on me!

Perhaps the chime has died?

thought of that, but not exactly sure where it is. any Ideas? Another source says there may not be one. any help here?

My 2001 2.7 doesn't chime either. Have left the headlights on twice now......

Mine always chimed, and the sound seems to be coming from the cluster. My car is away atm but would be cool if you could get someone here to test that for you quickly

Very useful buzzer and I can understand why you'd also want that!

The used (non Porsche) dealer had another 2002 that he showed me, that does the same thing. I really can't believe that this is not a capability/feature of the car. I too have left the lights on twice (not long enough to drain the battery down too much)

BTW where is the cluster you refer to, speedometer, Tachometer area?

As I stated in my first post, I am new to Porsche and new to the forum, did I post this question in the right area? should I repost it under a different heading?

I've got a '97 like Nine8Six and mine also bings at me when I get out with the lights on, sounds like it's coming from in the dash or speedo area in front of you. Has saved me a few times. Maybe they phase it out on later cars, would seem odd though?

my '98 quit chiming (dinging) a couple of years ago. I posted this exact subject on the "dinger" a long time ago, but did not get any solution. Someone commented that the dinger is an integral part of the dash and is not replaceable. I don't know if that is true, but I want my dinger back!!!

btw, there are a few idiots here who do NOT like the dinger and try to defeat the dinger because it is also tied to the seatbelt. I want my car to ding me if im not wearing my seat belt or leave my lights running. btw... no offense to the idiots who don't wear seat belts :)

The buzzer/ringer is inside the instrument cluster. I doubt they ever go bad. More likely that the cluster isn't getting the headlamp signal.

Hi guys, I dug up the old threads and figure the cluster may need replacement. Don't think i wanna mess with that for a dinger.

There is wire from the ignition switch that detects when the key is removed, you can wire a simpley relay that when the key is removed and there is power in the headlights make a buzzer sound
