Cleaning Seat Belt Webbing

Anybody have any good ideas for cleaning the seat belt webbing?
My car has the "body color" seat belts and seat stitching option, and in my case this is yellow. The belts become discolored from rolling back and forth into the retractor mechanism. Doesn't seem to be grease, just dirt that gets rubbed into the webbing, and has proven virtually impervious to the cleaning methods I have tried. I have tried upholstery cleaners, with and without brushing, Oxyclean and about anything I can get my hands on. Some improve the situation, but nothing I have tried yet has really cleaned it.

For safety reasons, everything I have ever read about cleaning seat belts says to use a mild soap solution and thoroughly rinse in clear water. This is to assure that the Cleaner does not degrade the Nylon Belt, possibly weakening it. Never use a strong cleaner, petroleum based products, or bleaches.

Following this recommendation, I guess the best way would to be removing the Belts and soaking them in a Woolite solution overnight to float the dirt out.

I realize how impractical this method would be, especially on a continual basis. So, if you want to preserve the integrity of the Belt, unfortunately I'd say it's something you may have to live with and just be satisfied to clean them as best as you can. Sorry...

Much obliged for the response, Jim. I don't know that it's worth removing the belts for, so I guess I'll keeping poking around. Seems like this would be an opening for the Maguire's folks to extend their endless line of products. Or maybe some German mfr to sell 4 oz of soap for $30.

Ronzi, have your tried Simple Green? Maybe you can do a small test spot. Spray it in, rub it out, and then rinse with distilled water in a spray bottle. Just a thought.

Not specifically Simple Green, but other spray cleaners. I'll try it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Ronzi, Simple Green has a product called "Automotive". Try that one because it does not have a color (dye) in it. Just an FYI.
