Question oil level timer
Ok. I previous owner said you need to let the timer complete counting. The thing i noticed every so often the timer goes to like 5 minutes, do you need to wait everytime.
|
I only wait for it occasionally when I'm interested in checking the oil level. Always do it before a cold start, like first drive of the day as it takes a lot less time to get a reading then. Takes forever when the engine is warm, so not worth waiting for.

Thanks kinda what i thought, my owners manuel is in Spanish so havent really read thecwhole thing like i normally do.

Only when it's a cold start.

The countdown will be longer when the oil is hot, I have had it show 15 minutes a few times. You do not need to wait unless you want to check the oil level. The oil level will also appear for a few minutes after you fill up with gas.

Most of the answers posted are correct or partially correct.
The reading cycle is not based on engine temp cold, warm or hot. The cycle depends on how long the engine has been turned off. The oil needs time to drain back into the oil pan after it's been started. When you first turn off the engine and attempt to take a reading it could take anywhere from 5 min to 10+ minutes cold, warm or hot. If you take a reading first thing in the morning after the engine has been off overnight it will take about 5 seconds to get the reading. |
