Never knew this about my 986

2003 986 S that I have owned since 2004. Digging through some papers I found the original window sticker. According to that sticker my car came standard equipped with Power Heated rear view mirrors.

Now, I am the kind of guy who reads manuals for my toys and I never saw any reference to this. I have to think that its not really heated enough to melt the snow and ice, or have I just missed it? You'd have thought that if it really was on the car there would have been a button to turn it on?

The rear defrost button also turns on the heat in the mirrors.

The side mirror heaters turn on with the rear defroster button in the dash. I'm pretty sure it is mentioned in the owners manual. I have used it in the snow, seems to work well.

I never saw that until now. Looking at It now I see that it has a one line mention in the manual.

Who knew! Feeling more than a little chagrined

There is a female plug behind the roll bar on the driver's side to plug in a hardtop or glass window soft top. The defroster dash switch is normally the one below the top up/down switch.

My understanding is that every 986 has this, my '99 does. If you can't find it, the plug may sometimes fall out of the plastic trim. You can see a picture of the plug here:

Lol. That guy. I've wondered a few times, actually.

When I see a smashed up Boxster being totaled, I think: meanwhile...in Cyprus...
