'Remanufactured' headlamps

OK, so it turns out I'm 'that guy'. The idiot that gets a Porsche after wanting one for 40 years then drives slowly into a tree while looking at his GPS. Stupid? yes, Excuses? No. Just stupid, I'm mad as hell at myself.

Well the Insurance is fixing it. They've agreed to a new OEM bumper and fender, but they are saying to use a 'remanufactured' headlamp and aftermarket radiator.

I'm investigating the radiator, but WTF is a reman headlamp, where do they come from and what is the quality? I can understand remanufacturing mechanical parts, but I've never heard of reman plastic headlamp assemblies? Are they any good? If so where do you find them? Google just turns up used parts or really ugly (and really expensive) aftermarket items that would look perfect on a 16 year olds riced out Civic.

I'm off to talk to the shop thats doing the work tomorrow, but the headlamp situation is bugging me right now.

The only place I've seen those listed other than a used headlight on eBay is RockAuto. Funny thing is, the 'reconditioned' ones cost a few dollars more than the new.

I'd check with the insurance company and repair shop why they can't put in a matching pair of new lights.

Never heard if remanufactured hedlamps for boxsters, they probably meant used and to honest I rather have good used than the new ricers

remanufactured hedlamp

The insurance company put one of these on my car back when I had my encounter with two Deer, I was against it and when the car was finished I said NO...it was obviously just a used faded yellowed headlight and I would not accept it

Thank you for the feedback.

What is the quality of the Hella ones on Rock Auto compared to the OE Bosch units?

C'mon! If you are going to drive into a tree, at least be going fast. It's a Porsche!

Seriously, better at slow speed than fast. Sorry to hear of your accident.

I have a pair of Hellas on my 2000 base. They are just fine. Would buy them again.

Hey, at least you weren't texting! :D

Hella is an OE supplier to the industry in general, so I'd have absolutely no issues using headlights they manufactured. :)

So you could say they're... Hella good. :D
