Hello All,

I had seen some old posts on here about LED day running lights. I have a 01 Boxster and would like to add LED day running lights in the headlight or grill area.

any pictures and where to buy?

I was looking into the same thing a few months back. Found this while searching. Seems pricey but people are happy with the results/quality.

Not to jump in on the Pedro bashing bandwagon, but if you want to save a few $$, you may want to search a bit on the internet. You should be able to find the same or similar options for less $$.
Or of course you could buy them from Pedro and get his great service

Lots of inexpensive LED options out there. I went with Phillips four years ago, still shining bright, no issues. 6000K temp. $100 on Amazon, or on Ebay for $60 (no affiliation).

Another way to go is to convert your fog lights to running lights,. Its an easy hack requiring a jumper in the fuse panel

You can easily change out the H7 fog light bulb to a LED

When changing out the H7 fog light bulb to a LED's, what is a decent bulb to go with? I plan to do this mod this w/e instead of the external option.

The ones I bought on eBay are no longer available

I did a search on ebay and chose the brightest ones I could find that had a front lens
IIRC, they were around $35 for the pair. I would guess that LEDs are lower cost now

My car was a US car no drl. It has the conversion to use the fogs as a drl. Mandatory here.

Looks great! How did you run the wires from the LEDs into the trunk? How did you attach the lights to the vent? I am hoping it did not require removing the bumper as I am sure 17 years has corroded many of the fasteners and that will create many opportunities to do some swearing! Any thoughts would be appreciated.

dragonflyoh, looks like you replied to several very old threads about this, I'll reply to this one.

To answer your question, you will have to remove the bumper there isn't any other way to route the wires. Use it as an opportunity to also clean your radiators. Most of the fasteners are plastic, and yes they might need to be replaced due to age, particularly the plunger fasters in the wheel well. Your local dealer should be able to supply you with a few, they aren't expensive, or use the generic ones from Lowes.

If you remove the front trunk liner you will see some rubber grommets that the wire can be routed through. I wired my DRL's to the 12V switched power under the center console (search: phone connector, for more info), you have to go through the firewall grommet from the dash to the battery area, from the battery area into the trunk, then I exited the front trunk on the passenger size below the headlight and added a plug so that the wires could be disconnected if/when the bumper needed to be removed (the plug is accessible with the headlight removed). Make sure to seal the cuts you make in the rubber grommets with some sealant to keep everything watertight.

The lights can fixed to the grills with adhesive tape, zip ties, screws, etc it depends on the lights you choose. I would suggest making sure the lights you choose are robust, my first attempt at DRL only lasted a few months before small rocks and debris broke half of the LED's and I had to replace them.

Thank you! I wish there was a better way than removing the bumper. It will add some time and I will get it painted so the cost of the project is increasing.

I see you've posted several different questions regarding DRL's.
I took a slightly different approach to DRL's.

I replaced my parking light bulbs with LED bulbs and use the parking lights as DRL's. The parking lights are inside the headlight housing and are easy to pop out and change, with no wiring required. The parking lights are several inches higher than the radiator vent grills where most owners are mounting their DRL's, which I hope makes them more visible. The LED bulbs are much brighter than the original 5watt bulbs.

I do have to remember to turn on the parking lights when I start the car, but that has become just part of my starting procedure sorta like putting on my seatbelt and releasing the parking brake.

on my 02 base U can use parking lights and just pull the fog light switch and the DLDL are on ?? not sure if thats the best way..I use it that way as I need to. ?

OK. The first two times I saw your posts (in other threads) I drove on by.

First, You will have to remove your front bumper COVER (Keyword = Cover). Maybe... 8 screws. 10? I forget. It's gravy... and will take you 5... 10minutes to remove.

Drilling a hole through the frunk? (Front trunk = Frunk). No. Already they exist and are behind the battery driver side. Do some looking.

The process to install aftermarket DRLs? There are posts here from caveman times. Do some searching. The answers are there. Use the seacrh feature. Have a nice day.
