Michelin Pilot Super Sports no longer available in my size
 

I thought I might take advantage of the rebates from Discount Tire, and called them up to see about getting 2 each, fronts and backs. I have stock 17" wheels.

The fronts still exist, both in stock 205 50 17 and 225 45 17.

But, the rears 255 40 17s are not available according to Michelin's site. 245 is the widest available for a 17" wheel.

My local tire store isn't able to get me a set of SS's in std 19" size either. The only thing is a PS2 Sport. Don't know if that is the replacement or not. Sucks. Why get rid of a good tire?

I just bought a set a few weeks ago 255 & 225. They probably are just out of stock.

Interesting. I wrote to Michelin. We shall see.

When I bought my 2012 BMW 535I MS new I immediately put Michelin PSS on it. It now has 37,000 miles on it and the tires have at least another 8,000 to 10,000 miles left on them. Amazing tires. However, this is a highway car. No twisties, which I am sure has increased the mileage.

I just bought a set of BFG Comp-2s from discount. $514 drive out. They feel really good...

Now I'm really looking at the RE 11s. But, they don't appear to be available in the 225 45 17 size. I guess stock 205 50 17s will have to do.

I got them as my DD tires on my 18's in 265 & 225

Just got my CSS back from Woodhouse. Spent a bunch of $$$ on suspension (more later) but we got into a discussion about SSs. Apparently Michelin needs a special tire machine to manufacture a SS and they're furiously buying more machines to get thru the backlog. Until then, they're not available in every size.

Put some front GT3 LCAs on. Shimmed them to 14mm. They convinced me I won't be able to pull shims to drive on the street and then slap them in for the track because the toe gets out of whack when you change the camber. So I had a full track alignment and will go with a cheaper tire (Conti DW) if I'm going to be tearing them up (insides now vs outside with stock setup).

Here are the specs:

-2.6 camber & .04 toe in front
-2.1 camber & .20 toe out rear

Ahhhhh, the slippery slope.

Speaking of Super Sports, I just had a set put on the Boxster right before the big sleep.
Stupid time to do it maybe, but I couldn't let a set of tire coupons expire.

Nothing wrong with that, the tread will wear out long before they "age out".

Bridgestone RE-11, 205/50/17s work fine for a more street-oriented car. 235/40/17 work for a more track-oriented car.
