Mounting the gopro to the tow hook
I borrowed a gopro for my upcoming autox this weekend and was looking in to options to mounting it. Looked into buying the suction from gopro for $30, which seems like a lot of people are successfully using externally.
I also found someone connecting theirs to their tow hook. So I bought $2 worth of hardware at the hardware store, in addition to my tow hook and tripod mount. Seems like it may work. Gopro Tow Hook Mount - Album on Imgur I haven't roadtested it yet because I'd like to have a safety tether first. I'm also interested in getting it mounted so you can see the steering, so I may end up buying a suction mount anyways. |
very clever
How do you get the tow hook to be tight and perfectly level? I used a handlebar mount and attached it around the rear view mirror mount and it works great. If you are going to use a suction mount, get a RAM mount, they are incredable |
The tow hook is slightly tapered, so I just put the screw towards the front and torqued it pretty well.
As far as level, that's to be determined. In the photos I left out the lock washer. If the camera isn't horizontal when I mount it, I don't know if I'll be able to adjust that. Also, I risk the camera rotating (along the vertical axis) too... So we'll see how it turns out. I bought the suction mount last night. |

It actually worked, although I was still scared of it falling off the whole time. I can probably "loosen" the tow hook a bit to get it level. |
