All this windstop talk,now my turn
 

So my tire is finally showing up tommorow,no more spare in 24 hours. That means as soon as that tire is put on time to drop the top and cruise. But the past couple of times I went our cruising at around 80mph+ I noticed that my windstop rattles ALOT on my driver side. Does anyone have the part number for the locking part of the windstop?

Although this may solve your issue, it may not. I use a thin strip of double-sided Foam Tape this makes it adhere as well as having a wedging effect to keep it nice and secure. Hope this helps...

Yup, foam taping that rascal in place permanently is the way to go, but on long trips with the top up it sure does make it hard to put anything behind the rollbars (like a jacket, a map, etc.)

Mine rattles like crazy too, and I've replaced the clips! Here comes the foam tape...

Ok, so I just thought that the windstop rattle was just the nature of the beast. I think I'll try the foam tape idea. Or just something to wedge it in a bit tighter. I kept thinking for a week it was the little cubby-hole sliding doors between the seats in the back that was rattling. :P

I have tried the foam tape and it just isn't working for me. It wears out in a couple days. I have put the tape on the bottom, sides and have really wedged into place. I remember a while back somebody was talking about putting real glass back there, but it was going to cost a chunk of clams. Has anybody done this? What about a safety issue with getting in a collision and having that come forward into the cockpit? I just hate driving an expensive car down the road and having to listen to Kathryn Hepburn back there shaking a Martini.

you can buy new clips for the sides from the dealer (they're under $5 for the pair). these helped my problem somewhat.

the REAL problem can be seen if you remove the roll bar padding beneath the windstop. the windstop support nub on the roll bar padding is held in place by a riveted metal bracket. this bracket cracks.

i'm not sure if the bracket is available in the windstop hardware package, or if you have to buy the roll bar padding. at any rate, it is the REAL culprit behind the rattling problems. see pic below.
