Microphone for bluetooth, location?
Recently installed a DD stereo and am wondering best place to put the microphone for the Bluetooth. Anyone out there have suggestions?

Do you have any switch blanks next to the stereo? That seems like it would be a good place.

In front of the gauges on the steering column is a great place

I ran mine under the dash, up the rubber trim on the left edge and up to the sun visor fitting.
It works well, er, with the top up or at low speeds. Both of which happen as seldom as possible. |
I've had mine here for about a year and it seems to work fine.

Mine is attached to top lip of lower cubby and works fine. I didn't have to cut any holes to hid wires either.

I put mine where it is supposed to go
Behind the mic cover on the instrument cluster...it was easy peasy....but I never use it for some reason
|
Ok some good ideas. I did have it mounted in the center dash where one of the switch Blanks was but looking for something more stealth. I would like to mount in stock location. Dwight what did you do to mount it? thought about getting a factory mic but don't want to spend the $$ I already have an Alpine mic that works fine. 2ND choice above the steering wheel as pictured above.

This is the factory location for the microphone I believe...
I cant vouch for its performance though. I would bet the ascetics of the dashboard were more important than the microphone performance of the nav option. |

I eventually put my microphone in the center of the steering column below the gauges. |

If you had a factory cell phone, that is where the microphone goes |
I was considering putting mine in the OEM location, but I ended up drilling a hole in the 'batwing' trim just above the shifter and it works great. Pretty low wind in that area with the top down, and very easy to run the wire since it is very near the stereo.

You can get good results if using the oem microphone.
Microphone in black for Porsche 986 and 996 - Porsche Classic If my memory serves me right, the Mic has an adjustment screw to set sensitivity for optimal performance. Edit: another link for earlier models with better price. Suncoast Porsche Parts & Accessories Dash Microphone Edit again: the suncoast part is only the plastic trim, without the mic. found out the hard way. although the description on their website clearly states: "Replacement dash trim. Small trim near the instrument cluster, with microphone for the audio system. Fits the following models: - Boxster models 1997-2004 - Carrera/Turbo/GT3/GT2 models 1999-2004" |
