2003 Boxster-S spoiler one side does not retract

Hello,

I am a new Boxster (2003 S, 44K miles) owner and have been browsing the forum to learn few things. The rear spoiler on my boxster extends fine (drive or manual switch). However, while retracting only the passenger side retracts and driver side does not retract at all.

The driver side goes in with a little push.

The above is true while using the switch or driving.

I removed the lip and the metal piece that hold the wing and when I operated the spoiler switch, same thing happen that the driver side does not retract at all. I did this to check if the spoiler was not align properly.

Couple of things:

1. When the spoiler rams (after removing lip etc) are in retracted position, I can pull the driver side ram by hand (the bad side). However, can not pull passenger side by hand.

2. I swapped the relay in the rear trunk and it did not resolve the problem.

I am bit lost here. Does it mean that the lift mechanism or part of it (ram or limit switch) is shot and I need to buy the whole assembly (most probably used) or I need to check something else.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Jay
