Hello from Texas
just got my 2001 Boxster S
having had various modes and styles of transportation I'm excited about this new one there's plenty to talk about on this car, but I'll save that for others posts bought with ~83k miles: http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1457420184.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1457420205.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1457420234.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1457420249.jpg |
Excellent. Welcome to the tribe.

You've come to the right place.
Your Boxster is lookin good. |
Welcome to the forum from another North Texas owner:cheers: Nice color;)
|
It looks like it is lowered a little bit, do you know what kind of suspension it has? Looking good.

Welcome aboard! Always nice to see another blue Box in the forum, and good start with the pics. We like pictures!

Tldr: I think it needs the aos so I got a deal.
Well, the history: Looks like I'm the 3rd owner. I've been piecing together the history as I bought it without anything but a carfax (for the right price). 1st owner in NJ put 60k on by 2005 and serviced at P dealer. 2nd owner put 1k mi a year on it in NJ and then it went through dealer auctions before ending up in TX. Not much of a traceable service history otherwise. I have identified based on my pre-purchase inspection and homework and forum lurking several things needing attention. So far I've put in a new ignition switch, had the dealer cut a new key $$$, and installed an 'ultimate Cupholder' (priorities) I've got the aos to put in already and have ordered some stuff for... -The radio won't turn on so a modern single din is going in -probably gonna do the iPad mini dash like BruceH -ignition still slow to turn over.... No idea what the lowered suspension is yet. Also figured out I don't have the wheels that came on it. Supposed to have sport design.... More to come. Thanks for warm welcome. Welcome, if you can figure out which porsche dealer the first owner serviced it at, you can likely call that dealer and they will have records. You maybe could sweet talk them into giving them to you.

They fed me a story after calling me back a day later that the old records could not be found because the dealer has gone through several ownership changes. Points for the callback at least. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Oneshot - look under your front trunk for the option list. It's a white piece of paperabout 2"x3". your VIN should be listed as well as exterior and interior color codes. It'll list a row of option codes you'll then be able to look up, or post them here and we'll help you decipher them.
Often times the 4 digit radio code will be written by hand on the same option list. Also go through your paperwork in the owners manual for the radio code. If all else fails, there's a thread here where member Heiko can hunt up an unlock code with the serial number of the radio. Welcome to the club! Rick |
Interesting headlight treatment.
Is that a kit of some kind? |

I have deciphered this: http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...7a044b06a2.jpg As this: Options XRL18" Sport Design Wheel 236 18” change of tire manufacturer 424CD Shelf Center Console 437 Comfort Seat L electronically adjustable 438 Comfort Seat R 446Wheel caps with colored Porsche crest (4) 454 Cruise Control 490 HiFi Sound Package 502 Valmet Production (Finland) 537 Left Seat with positrol and lumbar 551 Wind deflector and storage shelf over engine 584 Storage box above engine 696 CD Radio Porsche CDR 220 No sign of a radio code. I didn't really look for one as I have no books and the radio shows no signs of power even after cleaning the contacts and replacing the ignition switch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Welcome to the club. Lots of good garages to bring your boxster to up there in the Dallas area. It looks like you're not afraid to get your hands dirty though.

welcome to the board from Austin

Welcome and congrats!
FWIW, My Boxster has always seemed to turn over a little slower than my other cars, Battery is good and not that old. Ignition switch replaced (twice). It has always started, just sounds a little slow. |

I've seen some shops recommended here but am curious where ppl in the know take it for major work. Anybody have recent experience or recommendations? I'm considering letting a veteran shop do the next service interval to look over everything. Given the time I'd tear it all apart myself, but I'd probably do just that. I'm real comfortable and experienced until it gets to the wet work aside from oil changes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Interesting... Battery does check out here too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I am in the Dallas area and highly recommend Ed Mullenix, Mullenix Motorsport, on Tarpley in Carrollton. He does major engine work as well as the usual stuff.
