987 Spyder values

Will be interesting to see how these hold up now that the new Spyder is out. A pristine 2011 PDK w/11,000 miles ends this AM on Ebay.

Porsche Boxster Spyder | eBay

It's at $40k with three hours left, has not met the reserve. I haven't seen one actually sell on ebay in quite some time, but always fun to watch.

I've been watching those too. Looks like this seller thinks his car is worth more than what the market is willing to pay as well. I find that they want to sell (presumably to get the new thing) but only if they'll get top dollar.
If it wasn't for that top I would have upgraded to one of those by now. I just can't condone getting out of a car to lower a non-electric top.
A no nonsense car like this should allow you to lower it from the cockpit without having to stop. Those buttresses should have been pre-attached via some clever method of hiding them when the top is down.

I was reading that the 718 Boxster S is already a 0-60 4 second car and is quicker around the the N-ring than the 981 Spyder...and comes with a manual transmission. Performance is moving ahead quickly it seems.

Looks like bidding ended with $40,600 being top bid.

For the fun of it I went onto the Porsche site and configured a new 2016 Porsche Spyder. I stayed realistic and didn't overload it with options. Final price was north of $94,000 plus tax license and destination. $100,000 car. Makes the 2011s look like a great deal.

I guess the Germans have to wait a bit to configure their dream spyder
No 981.2 spyder on the german Porsche site

For the fun of it, I just configured a 2016 Camry Hybrid XLE 2.5L 4-Cyl. Hybrid Engine, ECVT for $38,654. Just like a Porsche, you can easily add 40% to the Camry base price with options.

This makes a 2011 Boxster Spyder with only 12K miles for $40K look like an incredibly great deal.

I received a message that the reserve was not met. Probably in the $50K's.
Bidders and sellers are not yet on the same page when it comes to the 987 Spyder it seems.

Thought is many 987 Spyder owners will be upgrading to the 981 due to the improved top mechanism. That should "flood" the mkt with 987 Spyders which should lower their price. However, most I've seen are in the $50-55K range so the mkt drop hasn't really happened yet.

Did you look at the Carfax on this one? She's been passed around a LOT. 5 owners, started life in FL, then NY, then IL, then GA. She must be a wild one.

This one has been on the front line for over 2 months with a $58,000 sticker.

The roof on these things is just to keep the dust out when it's in your garage. I'm not surprised they hang around. Being built for pleasure is one thing, but I think the 987 Spyder takes it too far.

Buyers don't seem too troubled with the side curtains & top on 356 Speedsters. The 987 Spyder is just in its "used car" phase right now. Give them some time, particularly the really bare-bones ones.

even though the 987 lines are lovely, with the 718 out its in ugly duckling phase of being two generations down. Middle child syndrome is never good and you can see the age in 997 and 987 now.

The silver accents in the interior and the wheel styles are probably the most outdated aspects of the 987.

I think the 981 will hit the worst ugly duckling stage of all boxsters though due to its hard styling that the cars before didn't have and now the 718 (outside of the radiator vents) doesn't have either.

I know, I would love a Cayman R someday, and was thinking maybe the price would drop as folks sold their Cayman R to get a GT4. Nope... They are still holding strong at 60K and up. Every once in a while I see one for 55K but they seem to go fast. I saw one like that at Carmax of all places...

As a speedster humps "user", i know about impractical roof procedures. But i don't care! Don't care to stop somewhere, to get the humpster off & roof back up. Roof stays down in summer anyways. Same goes for the spyder.

In my eyes the 987 spyder is not an ugly duckling, but a flawed pearl ... it is recommended not to go faster than 200km/h with that roof. For Germany, that is an absolute NO GO. Anywhere else it shouldn't matter.

The 981 spyder has no roof restrictions, as far as i know. Therefor the 981 spyder is THE spyder to get. Still wonder how the 981.2 spyder looks like...hopefully with an oldschool flat 6

That's it. We all see things differently.

IMO they look really bad ass. $55k bad ass, no, but they will come down and then scoop one up because these will eventually go up in value.
