What's your number?

I was just wondering if anyone else Is like me with a dollar figure in mind as far as a major repair that would make you part with your boxster? I personally have a number of 3,000.00. After 3 years my boxster has needed 12,000 in repairs and maintainence because I was dumb and didn't do a PPI. But even after that the next time it needs more than basic maintainence I think I'd rather put the money into a newer Porsche.

My 2002 S now has 122,000 miles and runs and drives well and I consider it dependable. I'm hoping to run it to 200,000 miles and go from there hopefully

I'm in the same boat as you basically as far as what I've done and where I am with my 986.
From here: All the sub-$3,000 things it will need I'll do, like brakes, clutch, suspension components, etc, but if the engine blows..... Well that's a sticky question. Do I dump it and drop wad on a newer car? Or drop a used engine in this one and keep going? I'm not sure. Depends on my state of mind at that time I suppose.

What repairs have you had that totalled 12K?

In my case I think that I would keep it regardless of needed.

The 2 major things were clutch/flywheel/ims/rms and a complete suspension refresh then smaller things from wheel bearings, engine mount, water pump, AOS, axle rebuilds, fuel sending unit, new top, brakes, rotors, tires , fluids, labor etc etc

After more than 100 track days, building a Boxster race car, three engines, two transmissions, four clutches, 30+ sets of tires, etc, etc; I am committed to spending whatever it takes to keep the Boxster on the track.

I have a small decal on each side of the Boxster that says: Race. Repair. Repeat.

💍I'm committed to the 986. Sooner or later she's going to the Porsche Parade to take on the 914s at autocross. With the right power, I believe the 986, being smaller, will turn out to be a better ax car than the 987, 981, or 718.
