Boxster stranded me twice this week.
Ok, I have done the searches and I think I know what is wrong but would like some help.
I was driving last Wed and she just died. Would not start but would crank well. I don't think the tack moved at all. After a disaster with the road side assistance (three hours later and a dead battery from having the flashers on) I get home and the tow guy helps me jump the car....starts right up.
The next morning I check the battery (Shows it was bought in Jan 2001)and it has 10.2 volts. I jump the car and the alternator shows 14.6 so I have a bad battery.
Today I am driving and it does it again. I'm only three blocks from home so I hoof it and do some searching, it looks like the crankshaft position sensor. After about an hour, I go and get the car. She starts right up...
So my thought is the Crankshaft Position Sensor....am I right.
Oh its a 1998 Boxster with 107000 miles and I have owned it since May of last year.
Thanks for any help.
Scott

Is the check engine light on? Can you check for codes?

For me those symptoms were due to bad Fuel Pump Relay. No CEL either
Car just shut down. Would crank but not start. After 10-20 mins. would fire right up and I could drive 10-mins and repeat. I did finally get home.
I let car idle in my drive way 20+ mins and finally it shut down. Relay was super hot. I jumped it, fuel pump came on and it started. Plugged relay back in and would not start.
Just another possibility
Good luck

Just had my battery crap out on me yesterday, out of nowhere. At least I was close to home.

I had the exact same symptoms recently. It was the CPS. Easy and relatively cheap to replace ($110, don't get it from the stealership, where it will be $250).

Well, a follow up on this post. I was going to do a video of myself replacing the Crankshaft Position Sensor but after taking the wheel off all you would really see would have been my back and my head stuck in the wheel well. No wonder I could not find one on you-tube! It took all of 15 min after I found it...I would say it was at least a half hour of me looking in the wheel well trying to find it. Very easy fix and it seems like its working, took it for a drive tonight and everything seemed great.
