I was driving yesterday and SOMEHOW my left headlight just feel out of the housing and got dragged a bit under the car. It's in bad shape and now I need to replace it. I had some new bulbs put in not long ago so I'm trying to get the lighting service center to pay since they did the install (I believe that they didn't lock it down properly).
They sad part is that the company on Ebay that sold me the headlights are "out of stock" and I can't find anyone else.... :confused:

OUCH that sucks man. I would def try to get the place that put them in to pay up.

Unfortunately, this is one of the downsides of these "LED headlights" that I'm always harping about. A lot of people have complained that they can't even get them to lock in, so they just sit there, held in by hopes and dreams.

Even the stock headlight scares me. When I was putting it in all I could think was that if ever I slammed on the brakes it would fly right out.

Does your lock bar fully engage? With the lock engaged, chances of one falling out are slim to none.

I had a motor bike pull out into my lane and slam on his brakes while I was doing 140 km/h and closing in fast I managed to stop with about a foot to his rear tire ..... my headlights stayed in :D

Yep, the light went all the way into the bracket and locked into place. The lack of any sort of screws or bolts actually holding it place was just really unnerving to me at the time. Then I saw this thread and started thinking about it again. Good to know that its pretty difficult to actually get one of these headlights fall out! Hope you get this figured out OP.

That's actually how it came out...I had to come to a quick stop and that apparently caused it to come out. I'll just go back to the original halogens if I can't find a replacement...smh. :(

Watch Ebay, maybe someone had the same bad luck with the right side

Problem could also be the OEM Porsche tool for loosening and fastening the headlamps. It's made of aluminum and can wear out.

Had the same problem with an OEM headlight. Changed a bulb, put the headlight in, used the OEM alumiunium tool, got a clack, thought headlight is fixed correctly, but it wasn't. Breaked hard, headlamp flew out of the mounting, bumped on the front fender (leaving lots of dents) and away. Never used this f… OEM tool again.

The problem is low quality LED headlights that are known for fitment issues.

Markus: I've used the OEM tool literally hundreds (maybe thousands) of times with zero issues. If yours stripped, it was probably caused by some binding in the headlight tray/lock bar or improper use of the tool. Use your hand to assist the headlight in seating by pushing it in as you lock it into place. There should never be much torque on the tool and if there is, then you're doing it wrong. ;)

So guys, while I like the original halogen headlights, I prefer an "updated" look on my BlackBox. I REALLY love the look of the LED upgrades that I have installed but IF I am unsuccessful in finding a replacement for my driver side after market headlight, what recommendations do you have: Litronics, kits, etc????

Go super cheap, grind down your amber, paint the reflector inside, and install Fred's projectors (sold thru Pelican).

ETA: The projectors are affordable, but I certainly don't mean "cheap" as in junk, they are awesome.
