Things to do while Dash Removed?

I'm almost ready to remove my dash for the dye/repair wire... I was thinking, besides the 4th Stalk which i can do with the dash in, what mods or upgrades can I perform while it's out. It will be out for a couple days for the dye.

Speaker upgrade?

Mechanical or electrical ignition switch replacement.

If you want to paint the plastic trim strips that run across the middle of the dash. With the dash out it will be MUCH MUCH easier to remove these. Actually you will most likely be removing these from the dash before the dye job. Either way much easier to get them off and on with the dash out.

I have MB Quartz in the doors, and dislike the overwhelming sound out of the Alpine Dash Speakers. Even tho they can't handle the power so they sound pretty bad on some notes. I have mine disconnected.

Mine are Leather. I have a full Leather interior. Every inch of my dash except... The center vents... And... The red speaker covers are all leather.

That's in the center right... And the flap that stops the air from moving through the center? I think I have some sticky foam stuff to seal home windows.

With the dash out, it doesn't look like there is much to do, the ignition switch maybe. Mine hasn't given any issues but possibly good idea while it's out

Image is broken. I used some to adapt the 01 vent with the 04 dash center face. But I believe I have more

I fixed the image...I think. I can see it, anyway.

I'll look at it. Question, when the vents... On the HVaC display aren't active, should any come out of the center?

If you wanted to change the horizontal trim strips to, say carbon fiber, aluminum, etc., doing it with the dash out is easiest.

Eh, I just dyed it. But I might if the dye takes longer. I've depleted the city of all the dye lol. So waiting for new order. They only have small bottles :( and the dash took a lot. I'm about to order red carbon fiber for the plastic pieces and the center surrounding the tablet/radio. So maybe that will just be the ultimate set off to look bad ass.

I did however locate my wire issue. Despite the previous owner installing a fuse that was higher than it should be, seems the drop top switch is what shorted out while it wasn't connected and luckily is the only damage.

So the rest of the wires are fine. It's just from here over the steering column to the center and to the switch.

I'll probably just cut this wire. The car is permanently hardtop and the only reason I have to open the deck would be to remove the sub enclosure so I could install a switch here. Maybe use the spoiler switch since I wanna move it to a better location.

How will you get in to change air filter, top up power steering, etc.?

Easy, remove the engine cap. With the soft top no longer there, there is no reason for the deck to move really. There is a ton of empty space. The switch is hidden behind the radio anyway.
