"Front Control Unit" issues?

A friend with a 2005 Box has a bunch of error codes/dash indications after buffing his headlight lenses. A quick web search shows that buffing/waxing can cause problems with the "front control unit".

I have never heard of this, and have never had a problem like it on my 2003S.

Anyone know anything about this? It seems completely weird, but apparently it's a real thing.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

It is a common issue with the 2005 987. Static buildup from wiping the headlights with a microfiber cloth can cause issues or even fry the front control unit.
He can try unplugging the unit for 5-10 minutes (disconnect battery first) and/or having the code cleared, but there's a chance that it needs to be replaced (around $500 for the part).

I would also add a static discharge ground connection to prevent it from happening again.

If you remove the headlight assembly from the car can you avoid this issue?

I am glad that I ran into this tread because I was thinking of doing this to my headlight lenses...
