Some epic trade-ins at the dealership today.

Or modern-day version of "epic" iron.
Did my usual Sunday night cruise in the Weekender to the dealer to tire-kick and was pleasantly surprised at a couple of new selections in the used area.

Of the modern Porsches, these are my two top dream cars.

PS: there is an empty space on the showroom floor where the 2016 Spyder sat, so I'm going to take a stab and say the red Spyder was the trade-in for that one.

thstone 12-20-2015 07:57 PM

Wow! Those are a pair of really great cars!

If I had to choose, I'd take the Boxster Spyder over the 50th Annv 991. No, on second thought I'd take the 991 over the Spyder. Uh,... no I'd ...

Damn, can't choose just one!

Retroman1969 12-20-2015 08:11 PM

LOL, I know what you mean.
This might help:
On the website, the 911 is listed at $121,000
The Spyder at $56,000

Honestly that doesn't sound too bad on the 2012 Spyder. I'd pick it over a new Base for the same price. (Well, if it wasn't going to be a daily driver that is)

Steve Tinker 12-20-2015 08:38 PM

Ha, if those cars were for sale in Australia, just add another $100,000 on top of each of the asking prices.
I could weep when I see those bargains.....

bobbeck 12-20-2015 08:51 PM

That 911/50. Wow.

Luv2Box 12-21-2015 05:02 AM

You'll see more of the first edition Spyders come up for sale as the owners get their 2016s and that is a good price for that used one. Do you know the mileage and was it Certified?

They are very nice, I have seen a couple of them at the track, and caught and passed one. He was nice enough to lift on the front straight or else I would have never gotten by him. :)

If I had a car that expensive I am not even sure if I would take it to the track, and if I did I would drive very conservatively... Even more than I already do :)

I saw a special ordered 911 50 as a targa, that was beyond beautiful!

LOL! Too true.

I don't know if it is certified, but it has 26,844 miles on it.
It has the sport seats in place of the racing seats, PDK in place of the manual, and the sport chrono package. Also appears to have had the A/C added.

Retro, you're killing me. I love my LE but lately have had thoughts about a red or blue Spyder. That one would make a good DE car.

Must... stop... viewing... this... thread.

You know something the new 981 Boxster Spyder makes that old Spyder look a little underwhelming for $56K.

As for the 911, I'm not a fan of Fuchs inspired SUV sized wheels.
I think I would put that $120K towards a signal green 997 GT3.

Giller 12-21-2015 03:38 PM

I was just pulling out my chequebook when I saw that....AC in a Spyder....Pffft. No sale! :)

Retroman1969 12-21-2015 05:49 PM

I really like the 981 Spyder, But I wouldn't kick that one out of bed.... even though I agree the A/C (and the PDK) is a bit of a copout when you consider what the mission of this model is. ;)

I'll probably get called out on this, but as fantastic as the 981 is, it looks a bit too.......... Nissan like for me to be entirely smitten with the looks compared to the 987. At least from afar. That said, I love the 918 steering wheel and the much simpler-to-operate top on the 981 Spyder compared to the 987 version. On either, the super low profile.... um, profile and flying buttresses really knock me out. It just feels like a more pure interpretation of what the Boxster should really be.

jaykay 12-21-2015 07:33 PM

Agreed. I real like the style of the top....I see a GT4 everyday but have yet to catch a 981 spyder in the flesh...I would guess that it is a stunner. Which do all prefer the the new or old Spyder?

I think the 981 style looks better on the Boxster vs the Cayman. Big improvement in the trunk / top down process on a 981 Spyder. I don't know for sure but would assume the manual has rev-matching as std. The 375 HP would be handy too. But I don't like the $90K price, although at Thanksgiving my salesman buddy offered me a new Spyder even up for both my cars. And you'd have 20" wheels which would mean more expensive tires to replace if you DE with a brand new car.

I like the look of the 987 Spyder with the top off. The 320 HP would be nice. I'm a business major not a mechanical engineer, so I might have trouble figuring out the top up process.

I do like how this one is optioned. It also has bi-xenon and nav (maybe they all have nav). Just trying to discourage any potential buyers so I can think about this one.

Perfectlap 12-22-2015 09:43 AM

I'll say this about the Spyder now sporting a 991 Carrera S engine.... this is a whole different level of Porsche.
This car is not quick for a Boxster, it's quick for any sports car. I just wish they offered it with PDK and the GT4 suspension/steering. Even without the latter, it was only a mere 7 seconds down from the GT4 at 17.5 mile N-ring. Which leads me to believe that the lighter Boxster GT4 would be the faster of the two if power and suspension were equal.

hahahaha, the 991 GT3RS has 21" rear wheels (20" up front). Same wheel size as the rear wheels on the 918 Spyder.

The 20" Sport Technos on my 991 C2S are lighter than the 19" wheels were on my old 987S and 18" wheels on my old 993 Turbo.

I am probably going get some major flac but I think it looks much more desirable than a GT4. It might be one of the most beautiful cars ever made by Porsche....really need to see it person
