my new car
 

Hi Guys.
just wanted to share with you, that i got a new car last week.
after i sold my 99 base, i was ready to move forward and started looking for a 996.
had my eyes on few, but fall in love with this one as soon as i saw it.

Well, color us all jealous! It's a beauty, love the CF accents.

[just kidding]

this is a 2002 with 34K miles 1 owner.
the car has all leather interior and some OEM CF parts.
the sound system comes with the original sub woofer, and a cassette player :eek:
it looks and feel brand new, although some things will require attention.
i love it so far, and unlike my Boxsters, this one is going to be my daily driver.

since the 911 is 70% Boxster :D, ill stick around.

last one, and my favorite.
in the background my firs Porsche (2001S) that i sold to my friend, and still get to work on (and drive it from now and then).
right now it is in my garage for 90K service, and wheel bearing replacement.

the cassette storage is for sale for $1000.
i hear it a collectors item :D:D:D

Nice. 996 prices have dropped dramatically. Guy in the local PCA just picked up a beautiful 996 for $13k. I'm guessing it's the headlights, everyone hated that style? That's why I went 987 after 986. 987/997 prices are still up there.

if it makes you feel better, the good feeling of having a glove box fades away as soon as you realize you no longer have the pizza oven (rear trunk).

well, it cost me a bit more than 13K. ;)
that's a price range for a high mileage 99.
the major price drop is for cars with over 100K
i was also looking at a 2001 with 75K that needed tires, clutch, and starter (not big deal) that i could pick up for 15K.
i decided to put some more $$$ and get the 2002.
not only that this one was highly optioned, in 2002 Porsche introduced many upgrades to the 996. (in fact, 2002-2005 models are called 996.2)
the major changes are re enforced chassis, and a 3.6 engine (315hp) over the 3.4 (300hp).
this way or the other, 18-19K can get you a very nice car in my part of the country.

Huge jump in power from the 2.5. How does it feel?

It feels like a rocket comper to the 2.5, and stronger then the 3.2 (obviously)
but it is different.
I personally don't like the compersion between the two, as I think they are two different cars, (although they have a lot in common), and both grate rides.
As a daily driver I prefer the 911, but the Boxster is a tru sport car (even the 2.5).
If I could I would own them both.
My plan is to get one day a 981s.
I never drove one, but I have a feeling it's the perfect car for me.
It has the chrecteristics of the Boxster (well it is one), and the power of the Carrera (315hp). I thing it's perfect for a car that size, although I'm sure some will disagree. :D

I'm negotiating on a 2000 996 in Guards Red (I think...its red, anyway). I'm on the fence a bit because I'd really prefer black to contrast the Glacier White 986. Those two colors/models would make a sexy pair! ;)

Man... I owned a black '84 Rabbit GTI with a blue cloth interior in NY and could barely take the heat. Black on black leather in FL?!?! Dunno how you do it.

The 996 is a great car and everyone should own a 911 of some type at one time or another.

The photos of the 996 interior made me laugh a bit because they look exactly like a Boxster! :)

Red and White look gorgeous together! Although you might have to move up North here to really appreciate it.

Looks like you got a real cherry 996 there!

Congratulations. I feel that's the nicest style for the water-cooled 911 so far. I like that the Turbo headlights were the first that made the 911 a car that could never be confused for a VW. My favorite is the C4S because of the wider hips. That car to me was perfect on a nice set of mesh BBS.

As for plunging prices, it's certainly a good time to buy a Carrera if you ever had the itch. But its going to get even better as interest rates climb and banks clamp down on how much they're willing to loan on out-warranty cars. There are an epic number of mass produced water-cooled Carreras for sale on Autotrader. My last search came up with 4,297 911's from 1999-2016 available for sale right now! That's way too much supply, and it only gets bigger obviously.
There's simply no way a sluggish U.S. economy that many are predicting to go into recession in the next 12 months is going to absorb all the current used inventory let alone the trade-in that will be coming in from buyers looking to jump while they can still get good financing on new 911s, ditto for the Cayman/Boxsters. If you're thinking of selling a 996/997/986/987 you better do so now.... depreciation is going to climb at a faster rate than we've seen since the financial collapse of 2008, especially since all Porsches across the board (air-cooled or not) saw a nice bubble up in prices over the last 12-18 months. Once credit gets more expensive those upticks evaporate quickly. if memory serves in 2009 when credit collapsed, prices for just out of warranty 996's were falling by as much $25K in a year. The Boxsters didn't see such steep drop because they weren't priced that high to begin with, so less bubble to burst.
