For My Brothers in Northern Lands

For my brothers in northern lands, oh how I remember,
Hide their Boxsters during winter, on this first day December…

Winter hath my Nine-Eight-Six, absence sheen,
Freezing leather felt, what dark days seen;

For thee, remembrance of the past driving year,
December, Porsche bareness now everywhere;

Yet this time removed it will be springtime,
Bearing the Porsche badge, Boxster at its prime;

Today the paint pale, dread the winter’s near,
Tuned exhaust notes that sang, 'tis now with dull cheer;

Thou Boxster away, thy exhaust echoes mute,
Longing for warmth, sandy beaches, women in swim suit;

Yet abundant cold and scarce driving seems to me,
Perfect occasion for mods and Porsche dreams, until new driving pleasures return to thee.

OMG, is it cold here! All the way down to 63 this morning. Not sure If I can survive any more of this years harsh early winter. Come back warm weather! Hopefully I can hold out for the next 2 weeks till warm weather returns.

Winter Tires going on this week

Only thing I don't like is lack of a block heater.

May put a glue on heat pad on the oil pan this winter.

This car rocks in the snow.

Put my snows on the CSS last Wed. Got around fine on the ice we had on Thanksgiving. But I need to replace the TPMS sensors - they're 8 yrs old and finally gave up the ghost. Apptmt on Fri.

When people ask if I drive my Porsche in the winter, I say in my best German accent, "dey have snow in da Fatherland!"

Upcoming anniversaries:
12/3 - purchased Sydney 3 yrs ago
12/31 - purchased Punkin 8 yrs ago (where does time go?)

Had an event at local P-car store Sat. The sales associate who covets Sydney offered a Boxster Spyder straight up for both of my cars.

Cold and snow sure beat earthquakes, hurricanes, wildfires, dust storms, and "dry 100+ heat" any day and increases the Boxster longing during long winter nights. Only 16 weeks 'til "Hi Ho (Arctic) Silver" sees the warm, joyous Spring sun again!

Here in the Capital of Canada is still very nice temperature... knock on wood! Its been around +5C lately and no snow. Were pretty lucky so far... I probably should have waited to put my car away for winter but you just never know around here. I like using it when the top is down and just not the same having it up.... :(

Hey DrCactus I put mine away a few weeks ago also I'm just east of you. I bought it end of October and only took a trip permit for it and drove it for 10 days. I'm longing for spring also.

GTA_G20 12-03-2015 08:01 AM

My car's been tucked away since October. what a waste

NewArt 12-03-2015 10:06 AM

I've officially put mine away but then I just bought this hardtop. Now I'm on the fence. I've put the top up for sale and I've had a reasonable offer... but it looks great on my car!. I just missed a great deal on a set of rims and good winter tires. I am very tempted. :o

So maybe if I can find another terrific deal on winter wheels...
:rolleyes:

Gilles 12-03-2015 11:06 AM

NewArt, congratulations on the new hard top, the car does look really sweet..!

Now go and get the set of 17" with Blizzaks (..?) for $500 and enjoy your car during the winter, here is the link:

For Sale Porsche 17" turbo twist alloy wheels w/ Bliz... | Panjo

Or, if you don't like the wheels, there is another 18" set that looks nice too (without tires..)

Good luck!

I would have bought those wheels in a flash, but it says "Local Pickup Only," in Illinois :rolleyes:!

Road trip!

I agree with Gilles advice to New Art. Get a set of Blizzaks and you'll be fine on ice or snow < 4". My only worry is the idiot in the Mustang or Camero that could plow into me. At my age I don't have the need to be out on weekend evenings when lots of bad stuff happens and I can work from home if we get lots of snow. I do like to go in to work when the weather is bad just to prove I can and see how many ppl with their 4wd SUVs chicken out.
