Help request... Alternator/belt/battery issue?

Hi...
Was driving to work the other day and the battery light started to come on and off... Along with the abs light. Once stopped it would not start. Jump started it to get home.

Had the same symptoms on the drive back, but then the battery/abs light stopped coming on but the airbag light came on instead...

The battery is around 1.5 years old.

Now I am no expert, but is there a chance this could be that the belt needs replacing or is it more likely that the alternator is dodgy (or even battery??) eg if the belt is worn would it display these symptoms or does it either work or not work ( eg if it breaks??)

Thanks in advance for any advice!!

First, have battery checked & charged. Sounds like alternator.

If no belt, it would have over heated in minutes. The alternator can be rebuilt but mine made a loud spinning noise so I'd swap it out.

Could also be the alternator regulator.

Check the voltage with engine running / not running with a multi meter at the starter battery.

With engine running it should be 13,8 volts. Else something is wrong.

Regards
Markus

How much do you drive it? Do you keep it on a trickle charger when it sits? These cars can easily go through a battery in 1.5 years if not kept charged up. I'd do as Tim said and first get it load tested.

Probably driven 3 or 4 days a week to and from work. Cool, will get battery checked too, thanks. And not kept on trickle but I bought one today so sounds like a good idea 👍

Yep looks like alternator. Trickle charged battery. Then put meter on, read 12.5. Engine running.... Read 12.2
