Boxer type engine sounds - why our Boxsters don't sound like an STI.
 
I used to own a Subaru STI. You either love that sound, or hate it. I loved it! So I went looking for an explanation for why the sound of the flat 6 is so very different from that of the flat 4.

Just because an engine is similar in shape does not mean it will sound the same. Every V8 sounds different. 60*, 90*, stroke pattern, overhead cam, pushrod, exhaust design. In fact the M96 is way different than the Boxer. There is no reason to think it will sound anything like it without abnormal exhaust work.
