Front bumper grill "delete"

I'm thinking about doing this, but I haven't seen many others do the same.

Does anyone have more pics of this?

I did this in the past with my s4, and I was really happy with the result.

That's google! Changing privacy settings at random. Should be good now.

Your outside temperature probe mounts to the right-side grille, so you'll have to deal with that.

Just removing stuff doesn't equal creativity or styling skill.

Boxster base grilles were originally black, most biodegraded to gray by now. S grilles were painted titanium silver and may still look like new.

No such claim was made.
If I had the skills, I would want to remove the silly shroud around the center opening and mold it to look like the outer openings.

Yes, I thought about the temp probe, but that seems trivial. I just wanted to see pics of boxsters without the grilles. It should be easily reversible if I'm not happy with the look.

Ben006 11-05-2015 01:00 PM

It looks good !
But I wouldn't just remove the grill, I would cut the fins and repaint the rest.
It would look better IMO.

I tought about it when cleaning my radiators, then just put everything back together not bothering ...

GTA_G20 11-06-2015 01:16 PM

My grilles are removed

Pdwight 11-06-2015 02:16 PM

I went in exactly the opposite direction

That seems like a great idea...if you enjoy cleaning your radiators after every other drive.

Do you think the grill stops that much?

particlewave 11-06-2015 04:40 PM

No, I don't think they do...I know they do. ;)
A helluva lot more than none at all.

If anything, owners should consider adding mesh, not taking away what is already there.

Pdwight 11-06-2015 07:42 PM

I have never had a problem with overheating or the grills getting clogged up with stuff...Never in my 3 years of owning the car

GTA_G20, what did you do with the temperature probe?

GTA_G20 11-08-2015 07:51 AM

Its still in there, I thought u could see it in the pics but I guess a bad angle

The stock "grill" won't stop anything going in !

The 981 and 987 don't have much either.

particlewave 11-08-2015 08:26 AM

Yes, they do. Especially right now, with all the leaves on the road.
I just pulled some off of and from in between the slats last night.

Since this topic came up. How do you remove the grills or vents for painting, does the bumper have to be removed? Mine do look grey and I want to repaint them. What's the correct black color, a satin finish? I probably won't do it until spring, but I was just curious.

Thanks Guys!!!! Now what was once a beautiful picture has become the stuff of nightmares! Now I will wake up in a cold sweat wondering if I should remove my grills so I can stop and remove all those leaves every 5 minutes that my car has been hoovering up!! LOL

Yes, you need to remove the bumper to remove the grills.

When I cleaned my radiators, they were clogged by leaves and insects, I really don't think the two slats stop a lot going in.

mipstien 11-08-2015 04:11 PM

Does everyone have a different front bumper than me? Are these all aftermarket bumpers or modified from stock? i have the basic 2 hole bumper and i haven't seen all these different ones on stock cars so I'm curious.

Thanks for the reply, and in response to the last question, my bumper is stock and only has the 2 vents also and it's a 99.

Mine is a stock o1S bumper with Zunsport grills added....easy to install

That's my car so I can tell you that it has the stock grills in there. They are painted black so you can't really see them. With that being said if you look close there is a leaf stuck in the passenger side. No matter what grill or lack of grill you go with. I would recommend taking the bumper off at least once a year to clean out the radiators. :)

Many thanks

One of those rare moments for me "Right place at the right time"

I had just bought my Boxster and went on eBay looking at "Boxster Stuff" and some guy had ordered these and he had a 987 Boxster so of course these would not fit..he put them up at a very reasonable price and I bid and won....in fact I was the only bidder as I recall.....thanks for the kind words

Dwight

Take them out, spray them black. Youwill loose that cheap silver look and it won't look like something fell out of the holes in the bumper!
