Look what turned up at the local dealer.....

A 2016 Spyder! I know this won't be of interest to all 986-987 fans, but I love these things! This is the first one I've been able to see in person (including the 987 version) and pictures can't do it justice.
If anything is ever going to replace my Weekender Boxster, it will be one of these.... Someday.

Watched the new Spyder being unveiled at the NewYork motor show earlier this year and immediately fell in love with it, beautiful !, what I would do for one of these .

I see what looks like a porsche labelled electric car charger in the first photo. Do they have electric cars out already or is that for the hybrid?

Their hybrids used to be like a Prius, you didn't plug it in.

Now with the 918 and panamera e hybrid and cayanne you plug the cars in (they actually have supercharged 3.0 gas engines as well if I am not mistaken)

On the topic of the spyder I've seen a few 987s on the road and got a very close look at one at the dealer. Looking forward to seeing the 981 spyder.

The front bumper they put on the gt4 and spyder make the car seem massive compared to a 986.

Interesting looking spoiler on the back. Kind of a cross between the original dam and a wing.

This might be heresy, but I much prefer the look of my 986 back end to that Spider.

I was at the NY Auto Show unveiling for the Porsche Club. I like the looks and everything about it except the convertible top. I was the guy who asked if the rear trunk could be opened with the top up. Not that I'm in the market for one, but the fact that the rear trunk can't be opened with the top up would be a deal-breaker for me. They could have made a manual top that didn't conflict with the rear trunk IMHO.

I like that chrome wrapped 991 in the back.

In that color, the 981 Spyder is really striking in person. It easily got the longest stares when I visited the NY Autoshow. Especially from 18-24 years olds who all immediately pulled out their phones to photograph it. But I agree the fiddly top set up is a bummer. They should have gone manual top with attached appendages that would give it that tent effect Porsche seem to be so in love with.

I'm okay with the top because it would only be an occasional driver. You'd have to have this for perfect weather when the mood hits, and a regular Boxster for trips, commuting, etc. (or a minivan or suv if you can stay awake)
The top on this one is worlds easier than the previous version I have to at least say that.
I love the humps, but not a fan of the tail. Don't really like the "duck tail" on any of the Boxsters 2012-now.
A Panamera Hybrid sedan sat there previously which would explain the charge station display.
I believe base price on these is $82,000. They're being tight-lipped about the price of the one on the floor.

The 987 Spyder is one of the best in the entire Boxster line. I love them and if I was ever going to own a more modern Porsche, the Boxster Spyder (987 or 981) would be on the short list.

I'd love to experience what that 3.8 feels like in this ultralight version of the Boxster body.
PS: I've been back and sat in it a couple of times. Incredible car all around. Sticker on this one is $104,000. Yikes.
