Oil Leaks
 

I've been chasing after some oil leaks in my 2000 Base Boxster with just under 101k on it. In previous efforts, I had the RMS and the oil filler tube replaced. That slowed things down, but it was still leaking. I have also replaced two of the spark plug tubes and their associated O-Rings.

Today, I had the following work done:

R&R Intake Manifold Plenum - this included replacing various O Rings, Clamps, RTV, etc. under the plenum. I also had the following major parts replaced: 99617401571 - Crankcase Vent Valve, 99610327257 - Breather Hose, 99610716401 - Breather Hose.

The mechanic who did the work told me that there was oil deposited on the top of the engine and several O-rings and clamps were leaking.

I'll keep checking to see if this solved the problem.

If crankcase vent valve is AOS that should fix the oil on top. That's what was leaving puddles in my intake plenum.

I had replaced the AOS about 14 months ago when I installed a new clutch.

I've driven the car about 150 miles since my last post. I'm not smelling hot oil anymore, but there was a white, fine-grit deposit on the back of the car. (It noticed it because it was making the view from the backup camera look cloudy.) I washed it off on Saturday, but it was back after I drove 30 miles to work today.

I thought it might be leaking coolant, but the level in the tank is fine. It seems to be coming from under the engine since it is lightly coating the bottom of the bumper. I cannot be sure, but it does not appear to be coming from the exhaust.

Any ideas about the source?

IMS seal, look at the oil filter if its wet can be cracked or pinched o ring. Oil drain plug (will leave a oil puddle), Or reseal the oil pan (RTV gets old sometimes)(will leave a oil puddle). The best way to look for leaks is clean the motor with degreaser, and drive it on a dusty road it shows up fast. If you have no oil puddles then it sound like it only leaks under pressure.

Just a stupid question how does the oil smell, Engine or trany oil, On my 996 I had a out put shaft seal that leaked and that left a fine oil film on my car, On a Box its easier to see because the trany is at the back.

Thanks for the comments. Right now, my plan is to put the rear wheels on ramps and then run the engine and see if I can tell where the substance is coming from. I won't have time to do this until Saturday.

Spark plug tubes? Reading 101 last night mentioned they can crack. Good news, easy fix if the case.
