who has replaced the windshield?
Anyone have experience replacing th windshield? Cost?
Noticed a small crack near the windshield header. Its about 2" long and only cracked from the inside, the out side is still smooth on both sides. Bummer... |
Perfectlap, have you considered trying a "repair"? I have done this on a few cars with great success. Your insurance company will usually pay 100% too. These repairs cost about $70. There are some limitations (line of vision, size and etc.). These types of repairs can greatly reduce the chance of the crack getting larger.
If you don't like the repair...a good facility will apply the amount spent towards the cost of a new windsheild. Good luck! |
Shortly after I took possession of my 1997 boxster I thought of replacing the windshield just because it was horribly pitted (and still is, for that matter).
What stopped me in my tracks was the replacement cost. Aftermarket glass is hard to find, usually has to be ordered (never in stock) and about twice the price of a toyota or honda. I think I was quoted something like $700 plus installation from an online company. Yikes! If anyone has a lead on a quality aftermarket supplier of windshields, do post it here so I can find it. It's on my renovation list for my car along with a new top, a paint job, etc. |
Don't you folks have a windshield insurance rider on your vehicle? It's cheap coverage and covers replacement for "pitted" windshields as well. I have it for all of my vehicles. Hell, it's practically mandatory here in Colorado with all the sanding during snow storms....
I also had a few repairs done on my windshield for which my insurance covered completely without a deductable... |
My "insurance rider" on my windshield is the same as any other part of my car that gets damaged... $500 deductible.

Mass. offers windshield replacement. If you choose to have it, check your policy it's dirt cheap too - it's free to replace! No deductible to pay.

I just bought a used car for my wife and the windshield has a crack in it. 2 more weeks and we'll get it replaced through our insurance.... |
I have several DOT approved Boxster windshields ready for shipment if anyone needs one. They come in a custom "built for us" secure box for shipping. $300 plus shipping (shipping is not another $300) I had them developed for the new Boxster Spec series. With or without antenna, with or without tint strip.
