Boxster engine belts?
Hi,
I'm getting ready to take my 2007 to the mechanic to get some maintenance done, spark plugs, oil change, brakes, air filters, etc. On my previous car, I used to replace the engine belts every few years, but I can't find any info about the boxster belts. Does the boxster use belts that should be replaced?, if so can anyone recommend a parts vendor? Thanks |
Every 30k miles is the Porsche recommendation. It's on the list of things you do at the 30k mile services. I grabbed mine from pelican. I just find them easiest to work with and they present all oem parts without the Porsche sticker on it that adds 50 percent markup. One serpentine belt that's pretty easy to replace. Right behind the seats.

Your belt is 8 years old.
Your car only has one belt, the serpentiine belt. The belt is about $25. Your mechanic will spend about a half our removing and replacing the firewall carpet and access panel and 5 minutes replacing the belt. |
"can anyone recommend a parts vendor?"
Try Pelican because of good prices ,great service and outstanding diy info. Here is an article relevant to the project you mention: Porsche Boxster Spark Plugs and Coils Replacement - 986 / 987 (1997-08) - Pelican Parts Technical Article Porsche Boxster Drive Belt Replacement - 986 / 987 (1997-08) - Pelican Parts Technical Article http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/SuperCat/1048/POR_1048_BRKPAD_pg1.htm#item0 http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/101P/POR_101P_BOX003_pg1.htm Lots more just Google "Pelican Boxster +your project" or buy Wayne's book - no better diy book for the Boxster exists. |
Does anyone know what ball bearings (model/type numbers) are needed to rebuild the serpentine idler pulleys in an '01 Boxster base 2.7 with A/C (US-spec)? Thanks!
|
The bearings are 5202-2RS on all 3 pulleys.

IIRC, the service interval for the serp belt is 60k miles, not 30 k. They are cheap enough that it certainly would not hurt to replace every 30k if you like. Easy DIY, just takes longer to get to the belt than to actually change it
