Adjusting emergency brake

Can anybody help me out? I am trying to adjust my emergency brake and the process seems to be easy by reading it in the 101 projects book.

I can't break the nuts loose that are under the center console. There are two nuts on a long bolt that need to be loosened in order to give the cables some slack. Any ideas on how to get these nuts loose? Do they turn in opposite directions?

Hold the nut closest to the cable with one wrench and turn the other nut to loosen.

Just to make sure we are talking about the same part.

You loosen the nut with the yellow arrow. It should loosen the regular direction.

They are both right hand thread. Just hold the inner nut and turn the other nut counter clockwise or loose. The nuts are jammed tight so it takes some effort.
