I have cat (secondary) delete pipes on my 2.7.
Just wondering if anyone has used or made heat shields to protect the drive shaft boots and keep the trunk cooler. Not sure if there is as much heat coming of the pipes as there was with the cats (which had heat shields), maybe shields not necessary?
I must say these pipes make the muffler (standard but drilled) sound really good!

Cats create majority of the heat but to be as cool as possible have exhaust components ceramic coated.

I'll go along with BY - if you want to reduce the heat, have the pipes ceramic coated - just make sure they are coated inside & outside to get the full benefit.

I took my pipes off after my boots suffered heat stress after 20,000 km and required replacing.

They are cleaned and lying in the garage ready for coating when I get round to it.....

I am thinking of this:

I like the fact it is held off the pipe so air can circulate.
I was thinking of making my own alum. shield but I guess sometimes they can vibrate or cause resonance.

Found a spray-on ceramic product called Lizardskin, made by Mascoat. Pricey at $90/gal. and $90for a spray kit, but claims to adhere to most anything. No respirator required, but a mask is recommended. Anyone seen or heard of this? On the waiting list for the next batch of TS cat delete pipes, and comments on cat delete pipes and melting rubber boots has generated some concern.

A heat-related issue may be that heat rising from the headers damages the coils ? I fabricated my own heat shields for this reason. It was easy to do with the engine out but may have been tedious otherwise. I had seen heat shields on some versions of the M96 in 996 cars. There are very convenient threaded holes to receive bolts to attach heatshields. Perhaps they are standard on some other P-cars?

Heat will also damage the rear motor (tranny) mounts.

Those heat shields from Summit or ones like that work very well. I installed a remote oil filter on my 912 and needed on like this to shield the new oil adaptor and hoses. It worked really well and is super easy to install.
