Where you found it may lend some clues. ;)

It looks like remnants of a meth-head Okie's teeth.

I see that a lot around here...

I think it would give it away. :D

I'm betting JFP in Pa and Jake Raby will know.

And I'm pretty sure it's bad.

That's what 50+ years of not cleaning out your belly button will do.

I could make a pretty good Sasquatch out of mine :)

Next clue. Coolant tank bottom. The dark spot in the middle is a crack.

That is not good... Have you completely cleaned it yet?

I am in the process. I have an S oil cooler from Pelican coming tomorrow. I wanted to upgrade anyway and now I won't have to try to flush the old one. What do you think flush the radiators or just install new CSF rads? That I'm sure you know is a crack in the second photo. 17 years and this persistent hot spell took it's toll.

Taste it. It looks like watermelon Jolly Ranchers

Jager 09-24-2015 05:18 PM

CSF radiators would be nice but I would be concerned about cleaning all bits and pieces out of the motor.

911monty 09-24-2015 05:29 PM

Do you think the motor is the issue? I was thinking if in the rads would be next to impossible to get out. Here is more history. No service records when I bought the car almost 2 years ago. Car got warm middle of 0 when ambient temps high but no coolant leak. This year I changed water pump, installed LN low temp stat, drained Dirty coolant somewhat dark and light green tint, No telling what was in there. Refilled with new Porsche (pink) coolant. Temps great when cool (on 180 hash mark) but still gets to right edge of 0 when 100 deg outside. I have drained about 2 gallons of coolant to pull cooler and reservoir. Thoughts? Thanks

Also this stuff was under the reservoir. Reservoir is dirty but no gel.

I have to defer you to an expert on how to flush the system, maybe JFP or Jake will chime-in.
I have an Air Lift system if you would like to borrow that. I think you are nearby, I am in Santa Maria.

I knew you were close by, I thought you were in SLO. We'll absolutely have to meet sometime. Thanks for the offer. I bought an Airlift when I changed the water pump.

I could use your expertise with the new Durametric I bought :)

AS I'm sure you've all figured out by now my Coolant reservoir finally crapped out. The pictures are of what I believe is the infamous gel that forms from mixing coolant. I found what you see under the reservoir when I pulled it out. There is no gel in the reservoir or the coolant I drained. Since this stuff forms when heated and the high point is the oil cooler, I am pulling the cooler to inspect for plugging from gel. Hopefully this should give me an indication of what to do next. I will use this excuse to upgrade to an S cooler at this time. Any thoughts or recommendations ARE appreciated. Thanks All.
