Bucket list cars

I'm not trying to offend anyone, but curious as to what car you would want if the Boxster was not available. I like my 2002 a lot and have had many great drives, moments and compliments. I believe it the most fun I have had with a car in my life. I have enjoyed every thing from learning to work on it and do a lot of my own maintenance. Just curious as to what's on others wish list, thanks for looking.

Came very close to buying a 1988 Ferrari Mondial 3.2 coupe black/black.Mostly unloved series but a great driver over the 328 due to the longer wheel base and overall length.
Lots of Connelly leather. Great indy service at nearby Dallas.

Would have purchased the car if our jobs at work had not blown up.Less than $30,000 in 2006.

White 1986 Ferrari Testarossa...and yes, I would drive it whilst wearing the outfit.

Dare to dream big. I have always favored an early 2000's Aston Martin. Either a Vanquish or DB9.

thstone 09-20-2015 07:33 PM

These are the cars that I fully intend to own in the future;

Austin Healy 3000
Ferrari 328
Jag E-type
Porsche 356

RedTele58 09-20-2015 07:43 PM

I've driven Porsches for over 30 years, and while I've owned a few other interesting cars; Audi's, BMW's and VW's in my younger days, Porsche has and will always be what gets my blood stirring. I have a great admiration for many different cars, but most in reality would just be a passing affair of ownership.

I have a pretty extensive collection now, and there are only a few cars left on my list that I'd really want to own long term:

A newer 911 variant - either a 996 GT3 or a turbo 996 or 997. The 996 GT3 is getting more expensive and collectible by the minute, while the turbo cars are still in the realm of affordability for me - at least for awhile. It won't be long and the 996 turbo will start climbing in price and collectability too.

I like the idea of a Cayman, but I'm not sure I'd like it more than the cars above.

Other than something from above, I'm pretty happy with what I have. I know I'm pretty lucky to have what I do.

911monty 09-20-2015 08:03 PM

I have owned multiple air cooled porsches, MG's, TR6, Pantera, Lotus Europa and even a Fiat X1/9! The car that always has gotten my heart beating faster is the Ford GT 40.

Fairly simple taste and doable:
BMW 2002 Tii
Early to mid 1990s Acura NSX

Twomato 09-21-2015 05:39 AM

Went looking for a Boxster tip and ended up with a 996. Ready to move on so I'm selling it, anyone have a 2001 996 C4 tip on their list?

Chuck W. 09-21-2015 06:12 AM

Damn, Jake, that is one long list. Fortunately, you're young and with your intelligence and drive you may be able to afford several of those!

My list is short and realistic. I want to get a 993 cab.... again.

Dreamed for may years of getting a 1968 Camaro Z28, but that ship, sadly, seems to have sailed.

alm001 09-21-2015 06:45 AM

I have a long list as well, but most important: Mercedes 190e 2.3-16, and F355 or 348

Perfectlap 09-21-2015 07:17 AM

Although it goes against every rational financial instinct ingrained in my DNA (I never buy new) I regret two things... selling my very modified first gen Miata after much work had been done to it, and not buying a 997 GT3. I would have been very happy to have owned those two cars at once, one take the brunt of abuse the other to make the pain of depreciation a little more tolerable. As for bucket lists, I've really begun to fixate on the new Z06 this is an amazing car.
As far as "dream car", which I consider to be car that would constitute an extremely foolish use of my capital no matter how wealthy I may become, I'd say that would have to be an F430 Scuderia, 458 Speciale or Aventador Roadster. After owning either of those three I might as well drive a Yaris because anything else would be a let down.

Perfectlap 09-21-2015 07:24 AM

P.S.
A white V10 Lamborghini would be okay I guess....

Buying ANY car goes against financial smarts. Buying a car is all about the emotion and pride of ownership.
Cost of car+gas+insurance+maintenance+repairs+parking+misc = way more than simply taking a taxi and public transport (in any semi-major populated area). I've actually seen research showing you could use a car service (with driver) for cheaper! Anyways, I digress.

For me.....I still want the Magnum Ferrari! I'd even bring back the 'stache!

Perfectlap 09-21-2015 08:19 AM

^ having used Uber quiet a bit recently I'm inclined to agree that it would be cheaper than owning a car. You could just rent a car for long trips where Uber drivers are not to be found and still come out ahead of ownership. But I don't think that takes away from the case that buying a new car is perhaps the worst option and may cost you dearly down the line if owning new cars is heavily cutting into your savings/investment.

amagalla 09-21-2015 12:56 PM

There are a few on my list:

64-65 Mustang GT convertible
Ferrari F430 Spider in Ferrari Red
2003 Boxster S (Oh wait...never mind)
early 60's Corvair convertible (F**k Ralph Nader)
early 70's Dino (prices are skyrocketing now)

BFeller 09-21-2015 06:47 PM

Eagle Jaguar E Type
Ariel Atom

Retroman1969 09-21-2015 07:43 PM

Tough call:
A Porsche 993 would be high on the list along with the Ferrari 308 (yes, I was an avid Magnum fan in the day). Early Firebird Esprit (an even bigger Rockford fan), Aston Martin DB9, Jag E-type or even the modern F-type, Land Rover Defender, one of the modern custom re-pop 550 Spyders.

Jim Rockford 09-21-2015 07:56 PM

1st Gen BMW M Coupe (clownshoe)

Those wide hips and general awkwardness are a winning combination. And the fact that virtually nobody gets the appeal of this car makes me like it even more.

Someday I'll net me one of these and make my way down to Dorkfest.

Oh yeah and retroman, thanks for reminding me... an early Firebird Esprit for me too. Preferably in gold metallic.

cribfiller 09-21-2015 09:13 PM

Way cool list thanks for responding.

tomonomics 09-22-2015 04:39 AM

Cars on the somewhat realistic list:

Porsche 911 SC / 911 3.2
Porsche 968
Datsun 280Z (I had one when I was in college, until it literally rusted in half)

The 'Powerball' list (cars that would be in my garage if I hit the lottery):

Too many Porsche to list
Ferrari F40
Ferrari 512BB
Jaguar E-type Lightweight
Pre-1957 Porsche 356 (or 550!) that would allow me to enter the Mille Miglia.
Any pre-57 Alfa/Jag/Merc/etc that would allow me to run in the MM....I actually plan on doing that one way or the other.

JayG 09-22-2015 05:33 AM

D type Jag
XKE roadster
Lotus Super 7

And of course any Porsche

For me pretty much any Porsche sports car is a dream car for me.

A 997.2 GT3, but lately I've been thinking about a 987.2 Boxster Spyder in red or blue.

That reminds me, I need to get a PB tic.

Bucket list: GT3 & 360 Modena & newer Ferrari

WillH 09-22-2015 04:08 PM

Maybe more of a dream garage.

In no particular order,

'65 Corvette Grand Sport

'70 Camaro split bumper

'83 Camaro RS, (with the 5 speed and 350/350 4 bolt main I installed), to relive misspent youth.

Shoebox Ford, chopped but not too extreme, just because...

427 cobra

64-66 Shelby mustang 350

GT40

Lotus7

Alfa Romeo GTA

BMW 2002tii

Ferrari 328 gts

Ferrari Daytona Spyder, no mirror, “What’s behind me is not important.” 😀
Dino

Porsche 928

993

Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Coupe

Out of all those, the 83 Camaro and the 928 might be doable.
