Soft Top Repair
I noticed recently that my soft top is no longer as "taught" as it was a few weeks ago. After some investigation I discovered that the "glued" or "heat welded" fabric which is attached to the middle and rear soft top support bars and provides for the proper folding and tension of the fabric had become "unattached".
After calling numerous specialists (and being told the ONLY solution was to install a new top) I used 1/4" wide, 3M VHB (very high bond) double sided foam tape. After allowing 4 days to cure, it appears all is good. It might not hold for years, but then again I seldom raise or lower the top more than 2 or 3 times a year (summer-sunny weather car only). A lot less $$ than a new top w/install. |
Thanks for sharing this tip! Hope I don't need it with my brand new top, but if I do I'll give it a try.

Another inexpensive way to fix ...
… the soft top is using hot-glue or contact cement.
The hot-glue and the contact cement begin liquids penetrate into the fabric and form a long and durable adhesion. Happy Boxstering, Pedro Quote:
