Looking to enter the Porsche family...not sure what to get.

Hello all. This is my first post and I'm trying to research which Boxster to get. I am not going new as its a bit high for me. I've narrowed it down to between a 2005 to a 2009 Boxster.
My question is are there years to avoid? Boxster vs Boxster S. I need help please.

An 09 and newer car with a 9A1 engine is better value for money while being more expensive. That being said there isn't much different between an 05 and 08. So maybe a slightly older S would be a better buy then a base.

Thank you BigJake. Would you say there are any years to avoid?

You'll get better info from a 987 forum. You might try rennlist.

Big Jake nailed it. Get the S if you want a little more performance, get as new as you can. Be aware of the IMSB issue, and buy a newer Boxster without one if it bothers you.

I would go with an 06 at the minimum in that age range. Beefier IMS for starters. But an 09 is the way to go if budget allows, IMO. An S is a nice upgrade, but if you've never had a Sportscar before, the base will still wow you.

I recently went from a 1st gen 986 to a 2009 Cayman. The 09 is a lot more car, lot more $$. You should be able to find a nice lo mi 2009 car for around $30k.

09 and up for sure.

I think 09 was also the first year for the PDK
I could be wrong.....

In my opinion, you should look for the one with the lowest mileage you can afford. As S is better than a base but a base is still very enjoyable. The IMS bearing thing is very over stated but when you change the clutch, upgrade the bearing. I recently picked up a 2000 S with 12,000 miles for a great price. You never know what you are going to find. Just keep looking for ultra low miles and dont worry about the year so much.

Currently looking at an 06 with the color scheme that I want at a price I can afford with about 45k miles.

Nice car! You will love it. And the mileage is just right, low enough to be a good value over the long haul but you are over 40K so the danger of IMS failure is much lower now. Make sure you get a pre purchase inspection from a good Porsche mechanic!
