Probable Blown Motor
So after cleaning my MAF and air filter I went for a drive. Car was normal the first two miles until a loud mechanical noise, loss of power, and clicking noise coming from the engine. Got it home and pulled codes for 300, 301, and 305, most of which refer to misfires. I had it flat-bedded to my mechanic and got a call from them today saying the engine is probably a goner. They found a lot of metal including, I thought she said copper, in the motor oil. I have driven this car, a 2000 S, for 6 months and not a lot of miles and even fewer hard ones. It had a PPI and it was doing well except for the MAF related items. The rear main seal was replaced in 2009 when a new clutch was installed. Not sure what to do now......

The only source for copper is the rod & main bearings. You should go to the shop & stick your longest finger into the hole where the oil filter mounts. If there is metal in there you need a new engine, yours is not rebuildable.

gnomish - sorry to hear about a potential disaster. Not fun to deal with.
I hate to sound like an vulture, but if it repairing the car isn't in the cards, I'm looking for an S roller for a future project.
Contact me if you want after the dust settles. (If I can beat Woody to it.)
Thanks,
Rick

Lol, You'll probably pay more for it than I will. Most private sellers won't take my offer. From their perspective, I don't blame them.

I don't have all of the service records since there were multiple owners before me. I do have one that has indicates a new clutch and rear main seal was installed. I knew about IMS but was working on other issues when this happened. I miss my S2000 that gave me less problems despite being driven harder (YMMV).
