Car washes apparently hate taillights!
A few months ago I took my Jeep Wrangler through an automatic tunnel wash and it ripped one of the taillight pods off. The car wash manager paid for the damage luckily.
Today, I'm doing a quick manual wash of the Daily Boxster and the hose from the wand knocked the big brush off the wall right into the back of the car! http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...psfccksy5v.jpg http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps2uf0zj8k.jpg Unbelievable! My mechanic may have a used replacement assembly, he's looking, but if not I can get a clean one on eBay for $60-$70. Hopefully it would come in before the Eureka Springs VW-Porsche show on the 28th. Looks like the removal is fairly straightforward... http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps7upuriuh.jpg Remove these 4 nuts, unplug the socket, and slide out I presume? If there are any other steps or tricks to replacing this light assembly please let me know. ;) And if anyone in OK (RedTele...?) has a spare assembly they can sell also let me know. Thank you! :) Now I'm going to go try to have a better day! |

If he doesn't, check w/ Woodie (itsnotanova). He ships quick. If they are both empty, let me know. Of course I have one. :D (I have a set, and don't want to split it, but for you I will.) I'll be in OKC this Friday afternoon picking up a set of wheels in the Stockyards. We can meet there. Let me know. Rick |

Thank you Rick! I had a feeling, LOL!
I'll check with them. What are you wanting for your full set out of curiosity? You can message me about it if you prefer. ;) Good timing by the way! Thanks for the link, Hancock! I had thought about an aftermarket custom set, but most of them look a little 'busy' to me. ;) |

Let me know. |
Anthoney gave me the blackout ones that Rick gave to him and I have a good set on my parts car so there are a few spares here, east of Tulsa. I can send one to you or back-fill Rick as needed. Cost is a beer if we ever meet up.
 |
Thank you very much guys! :)
Turns out Oklahoma Foreign did have a clean one available. I'm going to swing by there to pick it up this weekend. Meantime, I tried using contact cement on my old one, and it didn't come out too badly! At least it will keep the rain out of the taillight for the next couple of days. ;) http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...pssmerug4r.jpg Thank you again for the offers to help, it's greatly appreciated! :) |
Okies taking care of Okies. It's how we do things.
We'll all meet soon for a kumbaya sing along. :D I'm glad Okla Foreign had the taillight. They're usually the first place I look for Boxster stuff. |
The Tao of Porsche. ;)
I do often forget that OF is there, mainly because Cory at Planet 9 Eleven has such a stockpile of parts, either from customer cars that are brought in totaled, or set up for racing.... and then brought back in totaled. |
you guys don't really take your Boxster through a automated tunnel car wash ????
|
No, this was at one of those hand washing bays. The big wand brush is what got knocked off its hangar on the wall and hit the car.
I used to run the jeep through the tunnels but not since the incident with its taillight. |
