Battery dead can't open doors
 

I've seen a lot of threads about not being able to open the hood with a dead battery, but on my 2000 Boxster that wouldn't be a problem I'd I could open the doors. The window won't slip down under the top to allow me to open the door. Is there a way to get the doors open so I can pop the hood and charge the battery?

I had to use a battery charger and a screwdriver and connect temporarily to the cigarette lighter center conductor to get my hood to open

Thanks but I can't get the door open so there's no way to charge anything. If the door would open the problem is solved since I can open the hood with no problems from there even without battery in the 2000.

Mine (2001S) is only electrically operated

I opened my door with a dead battery, when the window wasn't lowering that 1/2 inch or so that it normally does, by just applying gentle opening pressure and easing the window out from under the top seal. Not saying you won't break your window doing that, but that's what I did.

You should be able to reach the emergency front trunk release cable through the passenger (right) side wheel well after pulling the liner back. If not, you'll need to ease the window out.

When you do get it open, re-route your emergency release cable to the tow hook hole for easier access.

Yes I've done this quite a few times on my own Boxster and a few other owners cars, I simply unlocked the drivers door with the key, placed my forefinger center topmost against the door glass and gently pushed it inwards at the same time pulling the door open, the glass slipped out from below the hood.
If you don't want to use this method then do as Particlewave suggests ( he's spot on ) and use the emergency hood release behind the passengers side headlight, the only problem I encountered was trying to find the little wire release cable, I couldn't get my hand/arm in as my car has lowered suspension & I couldn't turn the steering ( door locked ) so I just removed the wheel . It's a good idea when you do find the release cable to place some heavier cord through the fine steel loop or put on leather gloves, as it takes a firm pull to release the hood latch, I've cut a few fingers on occasions.

The key should manually unlock the door. Then, one trick that works is to place a battery on the drivers side floor. Connect the positive to the fuse box per the instructions, ground to the steering column. Close the door. Unluckythe car using the remote. This should work. It is some work though.

That did not work for me, I tried and could get no current flow through that connection. That is the reason I went with the cigarette lighter...as soon as I saw the dash lights come up I hit the trunk unlock and click.....then of course charge the battery directly.....I was lucky my top was down and the car locked in my garage.

NO. You aren't even addressing the problem, but the locks are electric anyway, so double wrong and no gold star for you. :p

Earlier cars have mechanical levers rather than switches. ;)

Right his biggest issue is opening the door , unlock with key, push in on glass if you are paranoid and pull at door handle until door opens

As for electronic or pull lever. You still need electrical power to unlock the pull levers if the car is locked.
