Is the Boxster the longest running model ever after the 911?
I'm guessing yes?
|
You mean specifically Porsche model? Because neither the 911 or the Boxster are anywhere near the VW Beetle in years of production.

The boxster is coming up on 20 soon. And has all the other modern Porsche's beat. Including the lineage of watercooled 911s by a year.
So if something lasted longer then it is already killed. The 928 was around for a very long time, late 70s to mid 90s. However it's hard to believe that the difference between the 70s to 90s is the same difference from the late 90s to now. 928 was 77 to 95 Boxster 97 to 15 One could argue however that the 924 944 and maybe even 968 lineage is as similar as a 986 and 981. |
I think the 356 was produced from 1948-1965, so the Boxster blew by it about 2 years ago.

I would argue that the 924/944/968 lineage is similar to the 986/987/981 lineage and beats it by a year (at least until 2016...)
924/944/968 1976-1995 = 19 years 986/987/981 1997 - 2015 = 18 years |
In regards to the 911;
Purists would say that the 911 started in 1964 after being re-named the 911 from the original Type 901 which was launched in 1963. The 911 concluded in 1988 with the last year of the 911 Carrera 3.2L car. Then the Type 964 followed in 1989 and the various other Types thereafter (993, 996, 997, and 991). So, 1964-1989 or 25 years. Generalists would say that the 911 has been in around the entire time from 1964-2015 (51 years) and many would include the original 901's (52 years). Which ever way you want to count, its been around a long time. |
I'm sure the volkswagen beetle beats all the 911 records

For simplicity sake, maybe just stick "Porsche" branded models. ;)
