2000 Boxster
Trying to sell my 2000 Boxster with the broken transmission is probably the worst experience of my life.I got everything from scammers trying to buy it with a fake check,to bottom feeders telling the my car only worth 5k according to kbb.I did my homework, the average Boxster with same mileage and condition as mine goes for $8900.00.I cant get $4900.00 for it.So the car is no longer for sale.I don't care if my wife divorces me,i'm fixing and keeping my car.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1439462743.jpg

Good on you, it's gorgeous!

In my limited observations, I've observed that most non-running Boxsters go for $3,000-$4,000 at most. What kind of transmission do you have in your car? My buddy had his transmission blow up in his '97 Boxster (manual) and was able to find a used one on Craigslist for $500. I helped him put it in to his car, and while it was a lot of wrenching, its not impossible. A good indy shop would probably be able to get you patched up for $1500 or there abouts; having done that job I can't think of it taking more than 15 hours of labor to drop and install the transmission. I have no idea what the cost of a used tip-tragic is, so I can't share any data points with you there.
Whats gonna getcha, so to speak, is you now have a serious case of the "while you're in theres" in regards to now would be a great time for a new clutch, IMS, IMS-DOF kit, etc... That will run a tab faster than a drunk kid on spring break with his dad's credit card. Good luck and nice car!! |
Great looking Boxster, I would have to fix it too! Good luck:cheers:

As expected. Getting a good price for a non-running car is usually an exercise in frustration.
Glad to hear that you're going to fix it and keep her! Great looking car. Now, be ready for the offers for the soon-to-be-ex-wife to start rolling in.... :) |
Good deal. Wives come and go... Boxsters are forever. Errrrr.... wait, I may have got that wrong. (Perhaps not!)
I did a brief internet search to see if there is a difference between a base and S tiptronic transmission and couldn't find an answer. Or, if an S triptronic would work in your base. But, if it would here are three S tip trans for sale from quality porsche parts on eBay. One has 18,000 miles and the other two have 37k and 38K miles. They are $1500 with free shipping. If these would work this may be a good option. |
