Boxster S engine failure?
I have a Boxster S from 2002, 130000km. I have now experienced the same issue 3 times.
When acclerating hard in first gear, the cars goes into "safe mode", I canīt drive more than 1000 rpm. then I drive to the side, and turns off the engine, and powers it up Again, and the cars runs normally. Today when it happend, the engine turned off complety under accleration, went to the side, started it Again, and it runs fine. What could be wrong? The car has full service history at Porsche in Germany. Pls. help... Thanks |
PSM? Clutch slips and car thinks it's breaking traction?
Some sensor along those lines? Faulty sensor telling engine incorrect readings? |
How do you know that the car is going into Safe Mode? Completely turning off isn't usually a "Safe Mode".
Manual or Tip? What happens if you accelerate normally? Does the engine go into safe mode in any other gears? |
Itīs a manual 6 speed. It has never happend in other gears, always in first high rpm. og when shifting to 2nd. the first two times, I am sure it was safe mode, as it was still on, but could only take few rpms. Today (the third time) all lights on the dashboard went on, and the steering went hard, so I pulled over and turned the ignion off and on Again, then it ran Again. If I drive "normally", no error accours. And I just been out driving Again, tried to give it 7000 rpm. in first gear and second, no errors?
I donīt know if this is relevant, but I had the batteri disconnected today, for filling it up with distilled Water. |
They only thing I've experienced that seems similar was when the throttle body failed prematurely. It wouldn't go past 1K RPM. But it wasn't intermittent like in your situation.
Why not take it to the shop if its happened multiple times? |
Has the check engine light (CEL) come on?
How much gas do you have when this happens? Low tank or almost out? |
no lights came on. the gas was half full.
|
My recommendation: read out errors with a Porsche diagnostic tool.
