Hard Top for -1998 986
My 986 has never had a Hard Top.
I have found a Hard Top at a fair price, but I am not sure what I need to get to be able to mount it. The Hard Top is an 8 hour drive from me, so I would hate to get there being unable to mount it. I will get the inserts/Spinlocks and bolts. That`s all of the hardware. They are a pain to install. I removed the carpet pieces behind the seats. Research some threads on here before you start Pelican has a dyi. It is something you should install before you leave not a 10 min job.

That's all you need, but also take a set of allen wrenches.
Each side of the hardtop has 3 (or 5, can't remember?) allen head bolts, that can be loosened and retightened to 'adjust' the top. They are located under a plastic cover that snaps on/off. The tops tend to 'settle' to the car they are on, so you will probably want to adjust it before you start your long drive back. To adjust the top, secure the a-pillar lock. You can open close the side lock levers as needed. Then loosen all of the bolts, and have someone push forward and down as hard as they can from each side as you tighten the bolts. You will probably have to do this a few times before the top settles to your car and is as squeak free as it is possible to get on a convertible. Another common noise issue is caused by missing caps on the a-pillar prongs. Never a bad idea to have a few spares, PN: 986 563 625 03 Best, -Rick  |
