This is not a car guy.
This is a guy who thinks he is a car guy because he has a few interesting cars but has never worked on a car in his life....putting gas in it doesn't count.

^ I think he's gone into witness protection. I read those Rennlist comments, they were scathing indeed. He tried to close the thread but they were so pissed at him that they started a new thread to give him another whack. :D Rennlist 996 forum can be a brutal place...

So theStone did him three favors, he sold him the car at fair price, bought it back at a fair price and asked him not to print the article that seriously tarnished his cred as a writer.

I believe the appropriate penance for him would be to have to use a 15 year old well used Toyota Corolla as the only mode of transportation for a year. As part of that he would be required to bring the Corolla via maintainance and repairs to the level of a three year old Corolla still under warranty. ;)

He needs to talk to my Dad who just put a $3,500 tranny in a 2002 Dodge Stratus on top of the $1200 worth of shocks and struts, and now the AC console is going out (a $450 repair). Vehicle worth: about $1000. (and he babies his cars, but this one is still old)

Or my friend Jim who just had to replace the fuel pump and sending unit in his 1999 Chevy Pickup Truck to the tune of $678! To say nothing of the fact that the AC broke years ago ($1300 rebuild estimate), the tranny slips like crazy, none of the gauges work (except the gas gauge... now), it only starts if the relative humidity is below 39%, and he carries a hammer in the glovebox to pound in the friction pins for the occasion when the drivers door falls off (no, seriously!). It would take many, many thousands to fix all of it. Vehicle worth: about $1,500.

My 2000 Jeep Wrangler (another babied vehicle) is sitting in the garage with a $2,000 cracked head, and I've had to spend a good $1500 in repairs and maintenance in the year leading up to its demise.

You're fortunate losing Yoav Gilad as a 'friend' and luckier doing so at virtually $0 expense as most of us learned similar lessons harder and at greater expense.

A good friend of mine still occasionally ribs me for not informing him when one of my Porsches was for sale years ago... and thus we're still friends. ;)

Couple exemplary points why the world would be better served if Yoav Gilad continued playing with Barbies instead of cars:

• doing donuts on golf course at Amelia Island - nice job jack@ss giving real car guys a bad name
• continues to drive and push hard a vehicle which knowingly is not running smoothly -
  dumbs#it to the Nth degree
• doesn't know how to check or change points - AYFKM? Surprised he knows how to fill w/ gas
