The "dreaded" P0410 & P141 CEL codes

Well, after spending the first $775 to "fix" the issue with my CEL with my Porsche specialist a week ago, the light came back on yesterday. I only drove the car about 30 miles since the so-called "fix" was performed. They told me they checked the system. They said the air pump works perfectly and all hoses are connected. They replaced one of the 3 valves in the system (said it was rusted) and cleaned out (sprayed) the manifold. Obviously what they did didn't fully resolve my CEL issue.

It goes back on Monday. I'm sure they will suggest replacing the other two valves in the system and I might suggest they either clean the MAP or replace it, since I've read that can be an issue too.

Other than that, my 98' with 75,000 miles runs great....in fact except for the CEL I would have no idea I have an issue........just don't want to waste any more $$ or time.

I know your pain as I just went through this a few weeks ago with my P0455 code. I don't really want to get down to details as I'm disgusted with everything that took place.

Your MAF has nothing to do with either code.

The two codes are indicating that the SAI pump is not triggering or does not work.
Possible causes:
  1. Wiring harness of fuse issue
  2. Relay not working
  3. DME fault
  4. Air supply lines plugged
  5. Pump itself has failed
  6. Change over valve failure

Thanks....
They told me the pump itself is working perfectly (maybe its not running when it should) so at least that's "good news". And at least one of the 3 valves was changed out previously......so what remains is wiring, hoses and the other two valves.......

What a PITA!

Just got a P1411 code myself. Found it strange that it was only for one bank, but then I saw this post by Jager. The secondary air system is fairly easy to diagnose, but no air system in the world is going to get by the carbon crud that is shown in these photos.

I had those two codes not too long ago, and I did the carbon cleaning like Jager. It fixed my problem. Also I feel like I didn't fully clean it. You would need a long hose brush, and lots of carb cleaner to dissolve the hard carbon.

Don't forget the vacuum tank and connecting hoses in the SAI. I just spent $600 to have all three valves and the tank changed to get rid of a SAI CEL so my car would pass smog. The tank is plastic and can crack over time and create a vacuum leak in the system.

Ours was a vac leak. Way under the manifold. Replaced the pump relay just to be safe.

Xpit77 08-01-2015 04:50 AM

Mine did that as well. My guy smoke tested it and determined it was the valve. Unfortunately it`s a pain to re and re.There are some dyi you can try but we did it by the book. Removed fuel lines and manifold. The CEL did come on a twice after but I cleared it and it never returned.

Rob175 08-03-2015 09:15 AM

Standby......it's back at the shop today and we'll see what they come up with this time. Wish I could just dump a couple of gallons of Seafoam in the fuel and be done with it.....but I'm sure that wouldn't do much good. ..... LOL.

More to follow................

Update: Vacuum canister was said to have a small leak (wasn't holding pressure). They replaced it for the cost of the part only ($24), no labor charge. But said if that doesn't solve the CEL codes the only thing left to do is remove and clean out any carbon in the manifolds...est. cost $400. Hopefully it doesn't need that.

Rob175 08-05-2015 04:47 AM

75 miles later....no CEL. Keeping my fingers crossed that no more codes appear.

Rob175 08-06-2015 09:53 AM

150 miles in city/highway driving and no CEL.......cured???????

Jamesp 08-06-2015 01:05 PM

I to have the dreaded curse of the SAI. Near as I can tell as long as the ambient temp is above about 75 degrees or so the system never kicks on so the code won't reset. I believe there is a self test while running, but the true test seems to be a cold start.
