Cigarette lighter - list is white?

I had been using my cigarette lighter to power my radar detector / gps / phone charger (using a multi-outlet adapter). Finally got sick of having to plug / unplug it all the time so wired the adapter in using the phone wire.

I had noticed during this time the light around the outlet was brighter and white than the other buttons/dials, thought it was because the lighter was not plugged in the outlet.

Now that I do not need the outlet and put the plug back I find the white light around the outlet a little distracting and annoying (given everything else is amber).

Is this light supposed to be white, or am I missing something or have the wrong bulb to make it amber?

In all seriousness, I remember it being the same amber color as everything else, but that was a long time ago and my memory may be a bit foggy.

When u changed yours to blue, was it a simple bulb change or did it require soldering ?

The gauge cluster was just a matter of swapping bulbs for ready-made LEDs. The switches and climate control unit required disassembly and soldering.

I lost a lot of my pictures, but the thread below has some good info.

Looks like the cigarette lighter needs soldering, correct? Wish I knew if it was supposed to be white or amber - maybe I am just missing part of the outer ring or something similar ....

Thanks ... I do not possess any soldering skill so changing it is not really an option. Maybe I will remove the plug / socket and disable the light ... Thoughts?

I have some OEM amber LEDs and could make an LED "bulb" for you if you can do some soldering.
The bulb and holder are basically mated in a way that I can't just make an LED bulb that you could swap out. You would need to remove the holder/bulb assembly and solder the new LED directly to the contacts.

OR

If you can go for a week or so without the cigarette lighter light, remove you bulb holder and send to me so I can fit it with the amber LEDs. That way would not require any soldering on your part.

Sending to you sounds like the best option - I know my limitations and I tried soldering something once and it was a total failure, would prefer not to mess it up... I will pm you when I get it removed

No problem.
I wish there were a direct fit LED, but it would have to be side emitting and single bulb type LEDs are front emitting only.
If you can solder decently, you could do what I originally did in the link I posted. Otherwise, send your bulb holder to me and I'll put one in. This requires tiny SMD LEDs and some fine work, but still only takes about 15 minutes.
Shipping to and from Canada may be a bit slow and a few more $, though.
