New to Boxster - odd placement of clutch pedal....?
Hi all,
I am contemplating buying a 1999 Boxster base. Test drove it today and noticed a few issues.
There is wind/whistle from the passenger side roof. I think it is a seal around the roof or windshield. Is this an easy fix?
The clutch pedal is......too much "center". What I mean is that, well, it is pretty much almost too much to the right, I.e. Not positioned in a way that it is comfortable for me to depress it. Is this normal?p to Porsches? This is the first Porsche I ever drove. In most cars, it is well to the left and there is space between the clutch and brakes. I could draw a line strait down the center of the steering wheel and the clutch pedal would be almost there. It seemed I had so be a little sideways to use the pedals.
Beside that, it is an amazing car and comes from the premier Porsche mechanics in Ottawa, Canada. They come well recommended by all.

Yeah, the pedal box is tight and to the right. Normal, and you get used to it. I never think about it.

Porsche had heel-and-toe in mind when they designed it. Yeah...yeah....thats it.

Maybe it's made to help tall people like Walter Röhrl? I find it way easier to depress the clutch despite my height due to being able to approach it diagonally, this keeps my legs under the wheel and makes it easy to fully depress and lift off of.

I found the clutch pedal to be a bit far over to the right when I first got the car and kept hitting the side of my foot on the dead pedal. I adjusted pretty quickly so it's not an issue to worry about, IMO.

I am sure that there are several issues on a 16-yr old sports car and many you need to know what to look for or what to ask.
Please get an independent PPI from a reputable Porsche shop before you buy it. It will be the best $300 you ever spend in your life.

Clutch pedal always felt exactly right to me. It was also my 1st Porsche and most of my MT cars were Nissan, Honda Toyota previously.
+1 on getting a PPI

I never noticed or had a problem with the clutch pedal placement either. Just out of curiosity, which premier Porsche mechanic? I'm in the Ottawa area.

Every time I get into an American or Asian car with a clutch I think, wow the pedals are too far apart and the clutch is too far left. I guess it's how they are.

I never noticed anything uncomfortable about the pedals, but then again I came straight off of old air-cooled VWs, if you want to talk about cramped and odd pedal placement.....

Thanks for all. the replies. I am just looking for a good enjoyable ride, to enjoy during summer; nothing to track or anything. I have a 1990 Miata and love it but it is getting ´long in the tooth'.
The mechanic has put new brakes and shocks all around and is fixing the bearing and a small oil leak, changing the clutch and changing the water pump too. Test drove it on Friday with wifey, and it was nice. Her first word was "wow way more sophisticated than the Miata" and gave me her approval.
I like to do my own maintenance on my cars. Is it difficult to do so on a Boxster?

Hell no!! Very easy. You'll need two good long reach jacks though.
