Conv top needs a shave

Looked at a 2002 Boxster S with a friend. The interior looked good
Except it was really black and slippery. I was concerned it being slippery.
Exterior looked good no chips that I could find only problem was with
The top again black but it looked like it needed a shave. Very tiny
White hairs in the sections where the bows were. What was I seeing?
My top does not have them.

Thanks in advance for your help.
